Dog Name: Jo Beth
Breed: Hound mix
Sex: female
Age: 3 years
Weight: 32 pounds
Medical Needs: none
Housebroken: Yes
Crate trained: Yes, she does well in her crate.
Good in the car: Yes, she loves car rides. She'll look out the window and then go to sleep.
Good on a leash: She has gotten much better. She will pull and benefits from a prong collar. For the most part she's pretty good unless she sees a cat or a bunny, then she will shriek and go in circles trying to get to it. She loves going for walks and smelling all the smells.
Energy level: Medium, she's not going to lay around sleeping all day but she's not bouncing off the walls. She entertains herself well and doesn't require a lot of your energy. She plays with her toys, chews bones, and looks out the window watching the neighborhood. She enjoys frozen kongs and snuffle mats. After a while she will lay next to you on the couch and enjoys head scratches. She has never been destructive.
Need a fenced in yard: Not if you are willing to walk her daily and understand that she may not always use the bathroom right away when you take her out. She loves walks and should be given the opportunity to go on walks regularly either way.
Dog Friendly: Yes, she is very drawn to other dogs.
She follows the lead of the other dogs and copies what they do. She enjoys playing with one of her doggie foster sisters. Jo Beth originally had some resource guarding towards other dogs with toys, but this has gotten better as she's gotten comfortable in the home. However, she should initially be monitored when toys are out when she is around other dogs.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its adoptive homes? Yes, she is more comfortable as part of a pack and is learning how to be an indoor dog from the other dogs.
Cat Friendly? She is obsessed with the elusive cats in her foster home and spends a lot of time trying to figure out how to get upstairs to get to them. She has a high prey drive towards the outdoor cats. However, she met a dog savvy cat at another foster home and did fine. So I would say yes with very dog savvy cats.
Kid Friendly: Jo Beth has not met any kids since being in her foster home, but I imagine they would make her anxious.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Older and quieter kids only. Unpredictable movements and loud noises are scary.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them?
Jo Beth is the most adorable hound who came up from a shelter in South Carolina. She was originally very skittish and anxious but has blossomed into an affectionate, happy, goofy, and playful dog. Jo Beth likely had little experience living inside prior to coming to Delaware, and was scared of every sound and new person at first. Now she is no longer scared of most noises and will greet new people. She is more wary of men and is still a bit nervous with her foster dad, but this is getting better and she has more quickly become comfortable after meeting new men. She is very loving and affectionate with her foster mom. Jo Beth loves to play with her toys, go for walks, look out the window, and lay with her foster mom in the couch. But her favorite activity is going for hikes! Jo Beth has gotten used to the routine of the house and knows that she gets a treat when one of the other dog gets her pills, and comes over wagging her tail when she sees the pill container come out! She goes in her crate when you tell her to and typically comes when you call her. Jo Beth is a delight to care for and will bring lots of laughs to her new family! She takes a little bit of time, patience, and gentle love, but you will be rewarded with loyal, sweet and gentle companion in return.
