My Story

Update 11/16/08: Hi everyone! It's me, Jo-Jo! I wanted to tell you all that I am not shy anymore and can hold my own in a busy household. My foster home is so much fun. I get to play with all kinds of other dogs, and when I tire one out and I just start playing with another one, and around and around I go until they are all asleep. Then I get to nap with my foster mom. It's a nice life here, but I'm still dreaming about a home to call my own!

I have been really good at doing my business outside. I still like to sleep on the couch. I guess I just like my space. My foster mom thinks I am not a chihuahua, because I act more like a Jack Russell terrier, but nobody knows for sure. We're all just guessing! My foster mom and her friends laugh at me and say I do have a pug butt and chest. Hmmm.. why is that so funny? I am not as tiny as a chihuahua, either, but you can't say I'm heavy. I weigh about 15 or 16 pounds. You would never know I had three babies a few months ago; I've got my girlish figure back!

I hope someone gives me a chance. I know I can make your family happy if you have someone I can play with. It would also help if you love getting puppy kisses!

Update 11/7/08: JoJo is breathing a big sigh of relief because she's made her way to a foster home in New Hampshire. For a while she thought, at a year of age, she'd be too old to dream about a forever home. People kept passing her by to check out her puppies!

JoJo loves people and playing with other dogs. Because she was abandoned in a cardboard box on a sweltering summer day, we have no idea about her early history. She can be shy about meeting new folks at first, but she warms up quickly. Her foster mom is working to teach her not to jump for attention. The poor girl can't help herself - it's all so new and exciting to be living in a real house with nice people!

JoJo is a bundle of energy and will need regular opportunities for exercise and play. She's downright exuberant about romping with other dogs. She's also beginning to realize that toys are fun. JoJo has been sleeping on a sofa in her foster family's home, and that has been going fine.

JoJo is a clever little girl. She's already mastered the doggie door, which had her stumped for a while on her first day at the foster home. Her house training is coming along well, and she seems very trainable and eager to learn. Like any shelter dog, JoJo would benefit from formal obedience training. JoJo weighs in at under 15 pounds, and we don't expect her to fill out much more.

If you're looking for a tiny, high energy friend who likes to snuggle, too, ask about JoJo today!

If you're looking Notes from our partner shelter: JoJo is marked urgent because our partner shelter in Arkansas is full!! JoJo has been a wondeful mommy to her pups and now its her time to find a good home. She has alot of energy but likes to snuggle too!!

JoJo and her 3 puppies LuLu, LoLo and Tom Tom were taken in by our partner shelter in Arkansas when they recieved a call from someone who said a cardboard box with dogs had been left in their truck bed while they were shopping. It was 99 degrees that day.

JoJo is young, under a year old, under 15 lbs, and has been a great mother. She has taken very good care of her puppies and is now looking for a good home. She has alot of energy but likes to snuggle too.

Due to JoJo's small size, she will not be placed in a home with small children. This is for her safety and the safety of the kids. thanks!

All known information is listed here. If it is not listed here, then we do not know if this animal is good with cats or kids. Before sending an inquiry, please read the How To Adopt Page & FAQ pages of our website. http:www.almosthomerescue.net. This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending.

This dog is Urgent because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter. All Senior dogs 6 years or older have a reduced adoption fee of $200. This includes vaccinations, spay/neuter and transport from Arkansas to Maine. All dogs will be tested for Heartworm prior to adoption. Almost Home Rescue will process your adoption. Applications can be found at www.almosthomerescue.net and can be e-mailed attention of Christine: [email protected] for this particular dog.
