Jolene

We'd like you to meet Jolene. She is a 1 1/2-2 yr old 20 lb dachshund mix with a beautiful rich black coat and medium sized legs. She arrived in the rescue back on 11/4/23 with her 8 puppies (Jo Litter). Her puppies were all adopted in early December, but Jolene has had a hard time adjusting since she arrived. We don't know what this poor girl has been through in her short life, but we do know that people have failed her. Jolene and her 4 wk old puppies were found in an abandoned house. She took very good care of her puppies until they were rescued, but she arrived very scared and wouldn't allow anyone to touch her. She has come a long way since then, but she still has a long ways to go. Are you looking for a playmate for your current dog(s)? Jolene would make the perfect companion. She is all about her doggy friends and loves all the dogs in her foster home ranging in size from 2 lbs to 45 lbs. She does get spooked very easily and doesn't like quick movements or change, so an adult only home is required. Jolene now allows her foster mom to pet her, but it is always on her terms. If she's napping or very tired, petting is ok and welcomed. She will even give kisses - she prefers to give them to her doggy friends, but foster mom gets them sometimes too. Jolene IS NOT a lap dog; she has never wanted to or tried to sit by her foster mom. Will Jolene ever be a lap dog or want to sit by her owners? It's hard to say, but I wouldn't count on it. If you're looking for a summer project, Jolene would be the perfect dog to try your training skills on. She is very food motivated, so having a pocket full of treats will help with training. Jolene requires at least one other dog in the home (she is best buddies with the largest dog in her foster home) and a fully fenced yard. She is potty trained and has started barking when she wants to go outside. She LOVES being outside and spends a lot of time outdoors when the weather is nice. Jolene does not like to be crated EVER, mainly because she doesn't like to be in any type of closed in space. Jolene needs a VERY patient adopter who is willing to take a chance on this special girl. She is a sweetheart and just wants to be loved and accepted as she is, but will hopefully be able to give love back once she fully trusts her people. Giving her space and time will be the key. When you find an animal you are interested in, we ask that you fill out an application as a first step so we can determine if your family is a good fit for the animal. If you are, then we will contact you to arrange a time for you and your family to meet the animal so you can decide if it is a good fit. If you currently have dogs, we require that the dogs be present at the meeting to make sure it's a good fit all around. Once compatibility is determined, we move on to the paperwork and finalize the adoption. If the meet is not a good fit, we will keep your application on file for 6 months and we will gladly consider your family for another dog.
