My Story

Meet sweet Josie. Josie was found on the side of the road, slowly starving to death. She was so malnourished that you could see her skeleton. The person who found her was able to find her a foster and rescue group to slowly nurse her back to health (you have to slowly feed these type of dogs to not overwhelm their bodies). Josie finally gained enough weight to start her heartworm treatment as she was unsurprisingly heartworm positive. In order to rid her heart of the damaging worms, she is underwent a 3 injection protocol. After 2 months and getting healthier she underwent spay surgery to complete her veterinary treatment. (You can see Josie in her photos of when she was brought in to now) Josie is wonderful sweet dog. She is very intelligent and through repetition understands when you like or dislike something you want her to stop doing. She sits on command and enjoys belly rubs once she gets to know you. She understands off/down and stop (will look at you for direction). She is medium/high energy, depending on what is going on. She loves to snuggle and sleep on her foster mom's lap. She is also very playful and will bust out in zoomies when excited. When first meeting people she is very cautious but if you give her space to get comfortable, she will do so. She is selective about other dogs; she gets along fine with her foster mom's male lab but does not seem to be fond of other female dogs, and no smaller dogs of any kind. Though, it does still take some time to warm up to male dogs. Josie walks great on a leash and would do best with someone moderately to highly active, and either needs to be an only dog or might be okay with a submissive male dog her size or larger. Josie sleeps in her crate all night with no issues. Josie is so smart she fully potty trained herself! She always knew outside was the place to go! Josie is approximately 1.5 years old and weighs about 60 lbs. If you think Josie might be the perfect girl for you, apply to adopt her today! Josie is currently being fostered in Houston, Texas, but is available for transport to many locations.
