Joy

Background: Born October 4, 2023. Mother is black lab / border collie mix. Father unknown, coloring and size of puppies indicates possible German Shepherd or Lab. Current approximate weight is 35 pounds. Homes for Pets Services: Spayed / microchipped / all shots completed until 1 year old. Last Heartworm preventive treatment on March 15th. General: House-trained and crate-trained. Still working on her leash training, as she's not excited to go for walks yet. Understands some simple commands such as sit, bed, and wait. Joy typically bonds with females first, but does take longer to trust males. Will curl up on the couch with "her person." People: Foster family consists of teenagers and adults. Joy is calm at adoption events with older children and adult females, but has no experience with small children so is typically scared of them. No issues with males in the foster family after the first day or two. Joy was adopted once, and the adopter said she was very sweet and a good fit for her and her older dog, but returned her as Joy was scared of her small grandchild. Other animals: Joy appears to mimic or respond in kind to other dogs. Joy's sister Noelle is being fostered in the same home. When together, they pounce each other and play tug-of-war with a variety of toys. Joy is playful with the foster's smaller female dog and will back off when corrected. Absolutely no issues letting those two run around the yard together. Typically ignores dogs barking on the other side of the fence, but will occasionally bark back. At adoption events, Joy sometimes growls at other dogs if she is cornered or surprised, but other times doesn't react. Interaction with cats is limited to adoption events, where she has typically been indifferent. Foster is willing to meet at 3rd party location (i.e. Petsmart, Petco, etc.) to introduce Joy to potential adopter's other pets. Foster recommends that the adopter take Joy to basic puppy training to address jumping and additional socialization. Adoption fee: $200. This fee goes toward the veterinary costs of the Homes for Pets services noted above which were already performed. Foster is willing to contribute up to $100 toward the adoption fee to support finding her forever family.
