My Story

Junie is a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois mix currently being held at the Kern County Animal Services - Bakersfield Shelter. She has been at the shelter since June 15, 2024, and is ready for her new home. A volunteer spent time with Junie and said this, "Sweet Junie aka June aka June Bug! She was so terrified to come out of her kennel. She wouldn’t even walk. She took some patience and we exited out a side door nearby. She was more relaxed once we were outside of the loud kennels. She took time to trust me. She would put her head down almost in fear when I would raise my hand to pet her. With some reassurance, she warmed up. A staff member saw us in the yard and commented that she had never seen her so happy and her tail wagging We explored the shelter grounds and buildings. She was particularly concerned about kittens she heard meowing. She has a beautiful heart and the most gorgeous eyes to accompany!" Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community. Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks. [email protected] *No phone calls, please. If you would like us to call you, please leave your phone number in an email. CAPS can arrange transportation if you are on the West Coast.
