My Story

******Please note, once completing the initial screen you will be connected with the placement for a video chat. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time************ We are a volunteer run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. IF you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog. Junior, 1.5yr old neutered male, Siberian Husky mix, 65 pounds. Junior is in a foster home in Houston, TEXAS and can transport out of state once an approved adopter is lined up! Junior has had a rough, unfortunate and rocky start to his short life but all that is behind him now with only brighter days ahead. He lasted an unprecedented 40 days in the city shelter before landing on the euth list so when we say Junior is one of the more chill huskies you'll ever meet, we mean it! Junior has been around dogs of his same size and bigger, from bull terriers to Danes, and he keeps up with them all. He plays rough like a puppy, boxes with his front paws, and humps when he gets the chance. He play bows and chases the dogs around the yard, and is learning when to leave the other dogs alone, although he has not yet mastered the social cues. Junior absolutely needs a playmate - he doesn't have to be the only dog or have a sibling but he needs to continue his positive socialization around other dogs, and would be great for doggy day care, play dates or parks. Junior does pretty well on a leash and absolutely loves going for walks. He knows the word and gets excited when he sees the leash come out. He starts out wiggly and pulls a bit when excited but it is nothing out of the ordinary and that training cannot fix. Junior has seen cats while on walks and doesn't seem to want to chase them but we do not have enough history to say whether he is cat friendly. He's encountered kids in the neighborhood playing on the other side of the fence and is very interested in saying hello. We think he'd be best suited for a family with older kids simply because he is still a puppy himself and likes to jump or slap with his paws. As a young man, Junior still needs to improve on a few things - he jumps, throws paws, counter surfs, and is a Grade A beggar. Even still, he knows sit and a few other commands, and is a quick learner. He's extremely well behaved in his kennel and is quiet except when he needs to go out to potty. He's fully house trained and hasn't had any accidents in the house. Junior is fed separate from the other dogs in the home as a general rule of his foster. He's not shown any signs of resource guarding or food aggression, and happily shares his treats and toys. He loves going to the toy bin and finding a new/different toy to shake the stuffing out of or toss about. Junior is still a pup and full of that youthful energy but he settles well, lying on the floor next to you or entertaining himself with a toy. His foster describes Junior as shy and clingy, but says he's working on his confidence. He is slow to warm up but once he's gotten use to you, he is super cuddly and affectionate, and has no sense of personal space. He makes coming home at the end of the day the best experience ever, as he is giddy and bursting with silly, goofy delight to see you. Junior's ideal home would be a single individual or older couple who will make him the center of their world, babying him and taking him on adventures. He is slow to warm up to men and does not like people sneaking up from behind him or moving too quickly, nor does he take well to harsh/strong correction - it all scares him too much. Junior is very loving and loyal to his people and he relies on his family to make him secure if he is unsure. He is a Velcro pup and bonds tightly. ***Listed BREED and AGE - We are taking our best guess & recommendations from our veterinarian on age, breed and size when fully grown. We rarely know a dog's exact age nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. *** Interested in applying to adopt him?
