My Story

Kanata is a 1-year-old female Maltese mix with a gentle and nervous disposition. Kanata is quite shy and prefers to keep all of her paws on the ground. She does not enjoy being carried and is a bit sensitive to touch. Her foster also says she needs assistance to go outside or navigate stairs. Once outside, she does well and enjoys the outdoors, showing a surprising fondness for rain and wet grass. Kanata is gradually becoming less fearful, especially around the foster family's 12-year-old, 70-pound female dog. She has even started to enter the room with her canine companion and sits next to her for treats. Kanata loves mealtime and will bark enthusiastically when it's breakfast or dinner time. She has a hearty appetite and enjoys her food, often licking her foster's leg in anticipation. She has started taking slow, steady walks and can now walk over a block with ease. Kanata is becoming more comfortable each day and is showing signs of progress in her foster home. She would thrive in a quiet home with older children who can give her the patience and understanding she needs. With time, love, and patience, Kanata will continue to come out of her shell and show her sweet, lovable nature.
