Kanchi is a sweet young man that adores being near people and playing non-stop (hello 2 years old). From time to time, he needs some support from his primary human as to how to remain calm and show him the ropes of being a model citizen. He knows what is asked of him by his handler and will work all day long for you for some kisses, what more could you ask for?
If Kanchi was a human, he would make an excellent ball boy for any tennis tournament in the world. Other possible human jobs he could have would be a snorkeling instructor and a camp counselor keeping everyone in line and happy! He is super friendly (even with new people) and enjoys all the pets, snuggles, belly rubs, and attention he can get! Due to his higher prey drive, he can be a bit anxious around cats and wildlife. His comfort level of being in his crate is about 3-4 hours of his person being gone, after that he is not a fan of his crate. This is a work in progress and with proper conditioning, it will continue to get better.
Kanchi met some dogs through a baby gate and seems to be neutral towards them. As for the prey drive, he currently pulls, lunges, whines, stares, and barks at cats and wildlife. This is something that will need further work on redirecting and managing, possibly with the help of a professional trainer. His new family will need to be well versed in handling a dog with high prey drive. Kanchi rides well in the car in a kennel, is well mannered at the vets office, and loud noises do not seem to bother him in the least. One thing he loves is grass baths, rolling around in the fresh grass is the jam for this fella!
During his time in foster care, he has mastered knowing his name, Go Potty, Sit, and Free (his release word for thresholds). Items still in work are eye contact, Down, Come, Touch, Leash Manners, Redirection from distractions, and husbandry skills (trimming nails, handling paws, etc.). Kanchi has not been destructive in the house, is house trained, and does not counter surf but will give the food a good ol drive by sniffin. Another thing that still needs work is the crate training as mentioned above, he has made large improvements but is still not a fan of being in his crate. He will settle down if you hang out with him 5-10 minutes after going in his crate (XL wire crate), but not the world's biggest fan.
Kanchi is looking for a moderately active home to share lifes adventures with. He is a great young man who just needs some structure and guidance #LikeWeAllDid to become the best version of himself. More than likely, he would be a good dog around older kids but might be a little too rambunctious around the little ones at this point in his life. If given the possibility he would love to sleep in your bed or on the couch if you let him. He is not an extensive exerciser, so some good tug and fetch is all this guy needs along with proper mental exercise as well. With his high prey drive, he could excel at Barn Hunt if you could keep him focused. He loves water and fetch so maybe a dock diving title is in his future as well?
