My Story

Kara is pretty perfect. She gets along with cats, she's housebroken, she is VERY calm, she is quiet, she is a couch potato, she doesn't take up the entire bed at night, she LOVES affection, and she will follow you anywhere. At some point in Kara's life she was very abused. She cowers if you raise your hand and she will take off if she sees you pick up anything that she is unfamiliar with. We are really working to combat that abuse with her. It makes correcting her EXTREMELY easy since you only have to say her name in a stern voice- but then you also run the risk of saying it too sternly and over correcting her. Yesterday, I told her to go outside and she hates being alone outside so she looked outside and then turned around to go lay on the couch. At that point I said "Karrrraaa- outside" I apparently said it too meanly though because she tucked her entire backend down and ran and hid under the dining room table. About 3 years ago she ended up in the San Antonio Animal Shelter. They are an extremely high kill shelter and she she was scheduled to be euthanized. Thankfully, a person rescued her... unfortunately that person was a hoarder. She lived confined in a dog run for three years with no engagement, exercise or attention. When I met her she had given up hope and wouldn't look up or wag her tail. We could tell she needed out and to be given a chance to be a dog again. The neglect has taken its toll on her. She has some anxiety issues and will become antisocial when she gets scared. When frightened it usually just takes kind words and calm to get her to remember she is safe. She gets along with other dogs but their unpredictability can scare her. Once she really gets to know them then she is fine though. Males are usually better than females, I have noticed, because she attempts to play with some of the males here. She is perfect around cats. I have no fears of leaving her on my bed asleep next to my cats. I have not had her around children but they are not recommended because of their sporadic movements and volume. If you would like to talk about Kara and find out about this EXTREMELY sweet girl please email us at [email protected] I promise she is amazing. She brings me nothing but joy and knowing what she has gone through I want her to find a home that will love her and spoil her and kiss her every single day of the rest of her life. She is just that wonderful. If interested in applying please fill out the application at: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/CKR/Dog OR you can email us with more questions!
