Meet Katana!
*We are working on helping Katana gain weight, she recently had a litter of 10+ puppies, and that took a lot out of her! We are also working on getting some better pictures of her.*
This poor girl is fighting two “evils” that are going to make finding her a new home a bit tricky… Not only is she a “Black Dog” and therefore likely to be overlooked by adopters… but she would like a Female only home, if possible.
This is a unique request, but Katana and her sister Momo (maybe daughter) were abused by a previous male owner. So It takes her a few times meeting a male stranger before she decides that they are “friends” and aren’t going to harm her. It is not impossible for her to be around men, she just prefers females and doesn’t take much time at all to be best friends with women! Katana seems to fear me LESS than Momo, but she definitely still remembers the abuse and is nervous around new men.
*Katana is in a female only foster home and is THRIVING, so we know she will do great in a female only adoptive home too!*
How can we blame her for this fear??? As women… I think we all have atleast one story about a scary man… and in Katana and MoMo’s case they suffered abuse for the majority of their lives so far, in the presence of a man.
This girl really deserves a home where she feels safe, and where she can finally be herself!
Because we know she needs work on her fear, we are not recommending that she goes to a home with other pets or kids at this time. We think she needs to feel secure in her own home and with her new adult people before adding new pets or kids into the mix.
She is fixed, up to date on vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventatives.
