Are you looking for a dog who is ready to go on every adventure?
This sweet girl is looking for a family that has time to play and hang out with her and give her lots of attention. If you are that person, you'll be rewarded by having this amazingly loving furry family member. Kela is a playful, energetic pup who loves all people and dogs. She could be a good prospect for agility, canicross, or other sport, or she would love to be your hiking and adventure buddy. Her ideal day would be spent exploring and playing with human and dog friends. Afterwards, she'll snuggle with her people on the couch or bed.
Kela is not the dog to just be put out in the yard to entertain herself. Without a good bit of exercise and interaction with her person, Kela will find ways to entertain herself, and you may not love what she comes up with.
Having grown up with kids, Kela just loves them. She has experience with kids aged newborn to 7 years. Her current family says she once army crawled to try to play with an infant who was learning to army crawl. However, she does not know the difference between the kids' toys and her own toys and will take and destroy the kids' toys (and sometimes other household items) -- so adopters with young kids excited about finally finding a dog who is "good with kids," just keep that in mind.
Kela has done well with other dogs. She can be a bit much for other dogs (especially if they are a bit older or just less into exuberant, rough play), but when they correct her, she takes that well and backs off. A home with one or more other young, playful dogs could be a good fit for her.
Kela has very high prey drive and should never be in a home with small pets, such as rabbits. To be on the safe side, no cats either.
Other than her tendency to take various items and chew them up, her only behavior issue is fearfulness at the vet and with nail trims. This presents as: wide-eyed, ears back, lip licking, struggling when held, and attempting to move as far as possible from the scary procedures; no growling, no nipping. She'll need a family and a vet that will take things slowly, probably use an antianxiety medication prior to vet visits, and preferably help her learn to be more confident in these situations.
This athletic girl is thought to be a pit bull/boxer mix, but she looks like a supermutt to me. She is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and about 2.5 years old. She weighs a nice medium 42 lbs but is stronger than you might imagine from looking at her. She is house trained and crate trained.
We are helping Kela's family rehome her simply because she is not a good fit for their family/home at this time. They love her very much, but they know that rehoming is what's best for her.
Interested? Please get in touch via email (
[email protected]) or through PetFinder. We'll ask you to fill out a rehoming application to keep this process as safe as possible for all involved, especially Kela!
