Keno's
Foster Mom Says: Though he just arrived, we have been
SO impressed by Keno! He is SUCH a wonderful, loving dog, and I can't
begin to imagine how anybody could ever have given him up! Their loss will
certainly be someone else's gain. We'd been told he was a "house dog", and
his manners so far are bearing this out. He has been left alone in the
house, unsupervised, and behaved himself perfectly. He is good with my
boys, good with my female Husky, and even good with cats!!! He is gentle
and very loving, though you can tell he's still scared and uncertain as to
what's coming next -- no surprise, given what he's been through! We are SO
enjoying have this big ol' Teddy Bear in our home and our lives, and I can't
wait to learn more about him!
Updates: Keno is a big, handsome, gentle giant
(90 pounds) with beautiful thick creamy-white fur.
Hugging him is much like I imagine it would be to hug a polar bear!
He is easy going, but likes to have some fun too. It is funny to see
him sort of lumber-romp around in the yard when playing.
He loves outdoor walks, and seems to like to take in all that is around
him, even seeming to enjoy the falling leaves. I know he'll be like
a big puppy when we get snow!
Update Dec 06: We had to move
Keno to a new foster home, and have the following to add to his RAVE
REVIEWS!: Keno is just a wonderful
old guy. He is so caring and loving. He doesn’t have to be the center of
attention, but will not bypass an opportunity for a little extra TLC. He is
just great and well-mannered with all of my dogs and for the most part, they
spend the day together. When Cleo and Boo are busy
playing, Keno referees with his Wooo-Wooo’s and just enjoys being a part of
the pack. Gia is quite smitten with him and will flirt
her soft wooo’s by him as she tries to initiate play. He enjoys being with
my little pack and looks forward to seeing them come down the stairs in the
morning to begin a brand new day. He has had no accidents in
the house and will wooo or bark when he needs to go out. He really enjoys
being outside and sometimes needs a nudge to come back in. However, once
inside, he will find a place on the floor with the rest of the pack as they
settle in to watch some television with the guys or participate in whatever
I am doing. Like the other kids, Keno sure enjoys when someone comes down
on the floor and scratches his ears or gives him a big old hug. No matter
what your age, Keno is willing to be your best friend. He loved my nephew
who was in from college. Although he is over six feet tall, Keno had no
trouble crawling into his lap and encouraged him to continue hugs and
scratches. Luna, who is five, was enjoying playing holiday “dress up” with
Keno and he just let her have her fun and was a real good sport. He shared
holiday happiness and Santa hats with my brother and really enjoys a little
extra one on one during TV time. He is ever gentle and seemed to sense the
difference between leaning into my nephew for attention and knowing that
leaning into the couch was more appropriate for my 85 year old uncle. He
just knew that he was feeble and was attentive and gentle in his approach
and presence around my uncle. From kids to seniors, Keno knows how to pull
heart strings and his happy-go-lucky smile can melt anyone’s heart.
Keno’s
Story:
Poor Keno ... this incredibly handsome big boy is a victim of not only divorce,
but of the element of humanity that makes rescue necessary in the first place.
The people he'd devoted his life to loving split up, and neither cared enough to
make Keno a part of their "new life". We can't imagine the type of person
who could abandon an older dog like this without so much as a backward glance,
but it's clear that the DOG was the nicest member of the family! Being an
owner surrendered dog, a big dog, and an older dog, Keno was at the top of the
"urgent" list and flat out of time when we heard about him. We are all
suckers for the more mature dogs, as they offer a gentleness and degree of
character you just don't see in younger dogs. We know there is someone out
there who will cherish Keno as his heartless owners should have ... someone who
will accept the gift of unconditional love and devotion that his owners so
callously threw away.
He has been 100% cat friendly at my house, and also good friends with my
senior female Alaskan Husky (65 lbs.) and my old ghost of a "snack dog",
Honeybear, ancient at 17, and weighing only about 11 lbs.
This poor guy was turned in to a shelter by his owners after offering
them years of love! They told the shelter that they were getting, or had
gotten,
a divorce and neither one could (or more likely would) take him.
Unbelievable!
So the poor guy landed in a shelter and then came home to foster care at my
house. We kept his given name because everything else he had was stripped from him
by being surrendered by the family he loved.
He has a rich deep voice and will sometimes do the lovely "Wooo-woo" I love so
much.
He actually looks like he is rounding his "lips" when he "talks" to us.
He walks beautifully on a leash, he will walk when I walk and stop when I stop.
He also travels well in a car.
This dog's adoption donation is $175. If you know how much it costs to give a new dog responsible vet care, you can easily see that this is quite a bargain! He has had a complete health exam, has already been neutered, is microchipped, has tested negative for heartworm, has been kept on heartworm and flea preventative, is fully vaccinated and free of parasites. What to do if you want to adopt this dog: To get started, just download the application by clicking on the link below or SEND AN EMAIL to request an adoption application! We will review your application to determine if there is a good match between your family and this dog. (Note: We may suggest another if we can offer a better fit in terms of lifestyle, experience, other pets, etc. A vet check, reference checks, and a home visit will be conducted before an adoption can be considered for approval.)
