My Story

Meet Kipper! A 4 year old, male, Boxer mix who loves people! Kipper is housebroken and knows basic commands like "sit". Kipper has a playful, sweet personality. He has not been around other dogs, cats, or children yet. Due to the breeding of Boxers (they were used to help hunt, he may not do well with a cat or small animal). Kipper is a big fan of toy chew bones and loves to lay down and listen to music! If you want a furry best friend to smile and listen to your favorite songs, come meet Kipper today at the Humane Society of Charles County MD! From the American Kennel Club: Boxers have done many jobs: athlete, cattle dog, police dog, war dog (in both world wars), watchdog, protection dog, and guide dog for the blind. The AKC registered its first Boxer in 1904, but the breed's U.S. heyday began in the 1950s, when a Westminster-winning Boxer named Bang Away became a national celebrity. Since that time, Boxers have reigned as one of America's top 10 most popular breeds. Boxers are intelligent, playful dogs that like to stay busy.. They prefer to be in the company of their owners and are loyal pets that will guard their family and home against strangers. The boxer has a high need for companionship and exercise. Boxers are ideal for people who want a canine companion with them most of the time or for larger busy families with homes that are often occupied by someone. They can do well on a country estate or in a city apartment as long as they have the opportunity to romp and expel energy. If you live in an urban area, regular walks are necessary. Early socialization and training classes are vital in channeling the breed's energy and exuberance in a positive way. Boxers are highly intelligent, but can become bored with repetition. They tend to have a mind of their own and are excellent problem solvers. Boxers excel in a wide range of canine sports, including obedience, agility, and herding, and they perform brilliantly as service, assistance, and therapy dogs
