My Story

Knox (fka Hagrid) is a handsome one-year old male Mastiff/Labrador Retriever mix who was brought to the HSOV on February 24, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who had found him on Boulevard Drive in Belpre Ohio the preceding evening. Knox was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an ID tag nor a dog license tag on his collar ... And he was not microchipped. Knox has a black short smooth coat with white markings on his chest, white toes on his paws, a long tail, and a gorgeous face with dark brown 'teddy bear' eyes, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. This big guy has a sweet, easygoing personality. Hagrid (now known as Knox) was quite the gentleman when HSOV Kennel Tech Kathryn Rea (Kat) gave him extra TLC while he posed for preliminary photos in front of his kennel in the Holding Area (where new intakes are housed). Hagrid appeared to be ok other dogs in nearby kennels (who were constantly 'talking' to him). Hagrid just wagged his tail and made a quiet effort to make their acquaintance. Knox weighs 76 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash (merely because of his large size). He was a pushover for 'good boy' treats when we were enticing him to go back in his kennel, and he quickly followed the scent of bacon strips which were waiting for him atop his soft pile of blankets. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Knox was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for this big boy. Knox went home with a foster family on February 28, 2024 who planned to adopt him after he was neutered .. But Knox did not get along with the foster family's dog, so he came back to HSOV on March 15, 2024 and is available for adoption. These updated photos of Knox were taken on March 25, 2024 when HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash accompanied him for more flattering outdoor photos on a bright sunny afternoon. Knox was still very much the gentleman and posed like a 'pro' for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet. Knox' black coat glistened in the sunlight and also highlighted the beautiful auburn highlights in his coat. Knox will be neutered in the near future and will soon be ready to find a home of his very own. He could also be fostered with an approved HSOV Adoption/Foster application. Since Knox appears to be dog selective, we recommend a meet-and-greet if you have other dogs in your home.
