My Story

Koal 1-year-old male black Lab 70-lbs Not yet neutered Background. Found hopping along on the streets of Sacramento, young Koal is now at the Front Street city shelter. He was taken into the shelter six months ago with a badly injured right rear foot (he'd allegedly been hit by a light rail train)... and the leg was amputated. He was then adopted out. But now he finds himself back at the shelter and his former adopters did not come for him. Really don't know anything more. Koal is one happy, happy dog -- https://youtu.be/ttyccDfae4k Leash walk with Mister Koal -- https://youtu.be/BZp2sHhDsgc Can Koal relax for more than two seconds? -- https://youtu.be/ECCmQblmD30 Koal is quite playful -- https://youtu.be/OndjIr4yrk4 Koal meeting another dog at the shelter -- https://youtu.be/Vh78Ey30kmM Romping with Mr Koal -- https://youtu.be/iehXr9E4wH0 What our evaluator says about Koal. What a delightful, fun-loving, affectionate, playful, energetic young dog. Loves human touch and engagement. No food guarding issues. Got along great with another dog during the meet-and-greet. In fact, the shelter was so overcrowded, Koal gladly shared his cell with another dog that came in as a stray. He is quite energetic and mouthy... but a really happy and fun-loving dog. Zero-resource guarding. Fine with other dogs. I was able to touch, poke, prod, hug, and handle him without issue. The absence of his rear right leg sure does not slow Koal down. Played with every toy and ball that was available. Quick to gobble down treats. Need to use care due to his mouthiness. What Koal's foster says. Koal is a very happy dog and gets along with everyone. He likes people, children, and is tolerant of other dogs. He's very smart and learns quickly. He's very companionable and follows me everywhere. He does need additional training in several areas, however. At feeding time, he is so eager to eat he will lunge for the food bowl. We're working on this. And while he's completely housebroken, he peed unexpectedly inside the veterinarian's office and in the pet food store (where he peed three times!). He's very mobile and can jump on the bed (and off again when I tell him "no"), run in the park, and can even swim. Having only three legs doesn't slow him down. We don't have any cats, so I can't comment on how he would react, but my guess is that he would tolerate them. He's a very happy go lucky dog. What Koal's Rescue Rep says. One awesome young dog. Unbridled energy. Not for the faint-hearted, Koal is a firecracker of a dog. Go, go, go! Would do great in a home with older kids that could take being jumped on and knocked around. No idea how he is with cats, but he should do fine in a home with another dog. He will thrive with lots of exercise. Best that his forever home not have a lot of steps or stairs. Medical. Koal appears to be in great health. Current on vaccinations, microchipped. Not yet neutered. Heartworm test pends. Koal is located in: Danville.
