My Story

Meet Koko! Koko is a sweet girl who came to us when her previous owner could no longer care for her. She is a special care animal, which just means she needs a bit more love! Koko can be shy when going to new places and meeting people. Though she can be cautious of new people, once you give her affection and/or treats, she is your new best friend! To help build her confidence, we recommend slow introductions when meeting new people and going to new places, accompanied by lots of praise. Her first walks in her new home should be kept short and sweet to help her settle into her new environment. She has shown to take longer opening up to men and gaining their trust - but she quickly becomes your best friend and lap dog once trusted she is learning being aware of her space- per foster dad. Koko is a sweet little lady that just wants love and to be treated like the princess she is. Here is some new information that Koko's foster parents have discovered: Koko loves toys that make sound, tennis balls, and high-durability chew toys. She has a good foundation of potty training, but she will need a strict schedule to keep her in good habits! We are currently working on her separation anxiety, and she has been making slow but steady progress. She would do best being the only dog at home. She would thrive in a home with a tall-fenced yard and/or active pet parent(s) willing to work with her on her walk etiquette. Koko would thrive in a home with a secluded entrance, where foot traffic can be controlled. She does show signs of dog reactivity - apartments/condos/homes with shared elevator or stair spaces with cross-traffic, especially with other dogs/pets may not be suitable. While she is more than happy to sleep and cuddle on the couch, she can keep up the energy when it's time to play! Koko is known to get the "zoomies" a few times a day, so having ample time and space to play is recommended! She also lacks spatial awareness which could mean that she could knock over small children, so having only older house residents is ideal. Koko loves pets, to snuggle, give kisses, receiving chest/belly rubs, massages, crawling in laps, running & sniffing in the backyard, and providing the best cuddle bug wakeup call you could ask for in the mornings. We are continuing to learn even more about Koko and you can, too!
