My Story

Lacey has found a darling couple interested in making her their very own. She can look forward to having a Corgi big brother and 4 kitties to help her enjoy her everyday!
********************************************************************************

Update Lacey is so much fun! She quickly learned to "give me five" in just a few short sessions - she places her little paw in your hand when you tell her to. Its just so gosh darn cute! As Lacey has settled into a loving foster home she is showing her softer side more and more. She has stolen her foster momma's heart and is the apple of her eye. What a cutie pie!!! She loves to snuggle up in her lap for "tummy-time" belly rubs and has the prettiest chocolate brown eyes. She has bonded nicely to her foster family and is eager to connect in her sweet puppy ways.

Lacey is a Welsh Corgi mix that must have inherited a double helping of "adorable" from both her momma and daddy! Our vet estimates Lacey was born July 13, 2007. She is undeniably cute as a bug! She weighed just 19.5 pounds on 2/1 and stands 11.5 " tall (measured at the shoulders) . Based on her current weight and age, our vet now estimates her adult weight to be 25-30 pounds.

Lacey wants to be included in all the family activities and considers herself a "big girl" and would like for all the privileges that go along with it! She loves to watch tv - really! Hearing her foster family laugh at her antics is all the more reason for her to keep the entertainment coming. She loves belly rubs and snuggling up on the couch too. She is very good at entertaining herself with treat stuffed puzzle toys like a buster cube or kong and proudly trots around the house carrying her latest squeaky fleece toy conquest.

Lacey is just too cute for words actually! Everyone who meets her falls immediately in love with her sweet face and friendly and playful personality. When she goes shopping at the pet store for treats and toys with her foster mom everyone has to stop and pet this little darlin' and gush over her cute little self. She is a confident girlie, smart as a whip and and excellent problem solver too! She is going to be such fun for her new family. She l-o-v-e-s to give kisses and a quick snuggle then she is off again to explore her wonderful world!

Like any youngster Lacey will need ongoing training and guidance from her family. She already knows her name and comes to it, and sits to be petted or to get a treat. She sleeps through the night in her crate and is doing very well on her house training with a regular schedule and frequent trips outdoors to attend to her toilet duties. Good girl Lacey!

Lacey has been examined by our veterinarian and is spayed and had an umbilical hernia (quite common in puppies) repaired, is current on vaccinations including rabies, on monthly heartworm preventative, dewormed, treated with Frontline Plus flea preventative and microchipped.

On 1/19 Lacey was diagnosed with a bladder infection and has completed a course of antibiotics. Now that her infection has cleared up she is able to hold her urine longer and she does a good job of going potty outside when kept on a regular schedule. On 1/23 Lacey had abdominal x-ray films taken and bloodwork drawn to better assess her overall health. Although she is doing well with her housetraining, Lacey doesn't hold her urine as long as a puppy her age can normally be expected to do, and our vet wanted to rule out any possible underlying contributing factors. On 2/1 Lacey had an ultrasound exam of her abdomen that showed normal findings. Another urine culture (negative results) was taken to rule out a possible lingering urinary tract infection after her last course of antibiotics. She was also started on a low dose of hormones to help with bladder sphincter control and it is anticipated that she can start to be weaned off the hormone therapy regime around mid March.

We will consider families with dog experience for Lacey; one with older children or an adult home. We would like for Lacey to have a fenced yard to enjoy or a family dedicated to daily multiple walks and regular play time for this playful and inquisitive girlie. A doggy door would be a great solution to give Lacey easy access to a fenced yard to take care of toilet duties whenever she feels the needs to go with her more frequent need to potty.

Lacey may do best as the only cherished "diva-princess puppy" in the family or with a compatible male canine companion who would enjoy her rowdy play style. She does fine playing with other dogs and enjoys meeting new dogs on walks. She has a confident and bold personality with other dogs and would probably do well with a larger male buddy who wouldn't be overwhelmed with her enthusiastic outlook on life and who could be a benevolent leader.

Lacey has shown a friendly and enthusiastic interest in the resident feline who does not appreciate her friendly overtures. Consistant training would be in order to teach her to learn to leave kitty alone and be respectful of a cat's personal space. A confident cat who is not declawed would be best suited to reinforce those lessons with her.
