My Story

Meet Lasca! Lasca was rescued from the euthanasia list at OCAS in September and has been in foster ever since. Unfortunately, being rescued from the shelter was not the happily ever after Lasca deserves. She still carries the baggage of her last home. Lasca has very severe anxiety and a strong fear of people, we believe due to the neglect and abuse she faced where she was before she went to OCAS. She has been on several medications for her anxiety while in foster care but unfortunately none have made the impact we were hoping they would. Due to this she has been referred to a behaviorist. We believe that it would be better for her adopter to help her through this and bring her to the behaviorist so that she can become comfortable and grow with her new family and not have to go through the whole process twice with her foster and again with her new family later. Unfortunately due to her fear, we do not know much about Lasca’s personality as much of it is suppressed. What we do know is that she has a very sweet and gentle soul: despite being terrified out of her mind and handled by people she is very uncomfortable with sometimes, she has not so much as growled at anyone. She is also an excellent walker, she takes some encouragement to leave the safety of her crate but once she starts walking she will be at your side without even the slightest tug or pull on her leash. She is very quiet and has not made any vocalizations at all the entire time she’s been fostered. She is both house trained and puppy pad trained, and she’s not a destructive dog at all. Lasca seems to find some comfort being in the presence of other dogs but she is also very easily overwhelmed by dogs that are paying too much attention to her so we would prefer she go to a home with other dogs who are calm and confident and can model their relaxed behavior for her without getting in her space. Lasca has been exposed to a cat in her foster home and had no reaction but because all her drives are suppressed by fear we do not feel confident labeling her explicitly as good with cats. Lasca also needs a home with no young children.
