My Story

www.huskyrescueteam.org If you have additional questions please email [email protected] Imagine for a moment that you love your family fiercely. You think they love you. Things are great! You go for a car ride one day. Awesome, it's one of your favorite things to do. You think you're off to some great adventure. Your family takes you into a building where there's lots of other dogs barking. Maybe it's a doggy party! But then you hear your family tell someone that they just found you on the street. Wait, what? They tell the person you are a stray dog. They hand over your leash and they turn away. The family you love so dearly denies you were ever theirs and leave you in a strange, overwhelming place to sleep on the cold, hard floor. Is this really happening? Well, it did to Leena. Leena watched her people walk away and never look back. The shelter where they left her had no open space and her life was in danger. Leena's only saving grace, despite her people not knowing it, is she ended up in one of our partner shelters who knew just how to help Leena. They contacted us! So we welcomed Leena to the H-E-A-R-T pack! Leena is about a year old. She's an adorable, bi-eyed Husky mix. She's curious and sweet and despite everything, a really nice gal. She loves to play with other dogs and is pretty easy going so far. She's a high energy playstyle and would love another canine friend who can keep up. So far she's never met another dog she doesn't like, but not all dogs appreciate her energy. Leena seems to like children but due to her excited nature she may accidentally knock them down. Older kids would be best. She also loves toys and has no resource issues when it comes to sharing them with humans or canines. She is an extremely, extremely loving dog. All she wants is to play or get love. She plays with herself, with people, and with other dogs. When she gets excited she gives nibbly kisses. She's very smart, extremely cuddly and does not understand personal space. Loves belly rubs, head rubs, and really any type of attention. She is VERY sweet. She is improving on a leash but is quite strong and continues to pull when she sees something of interest. She would really like to chase squirrels! She needs ample exercise each day. Her foster mom jogs with her regularly. She'd benefit from 4-5 miles a day and will still do zoomies in the yard. She doesn't require a yard for exercise if you're able to jog/run her daily. Leena's dream home is: an active and playful dog brother or sister. People that run or walk her several miles a day. A fenced yard. Lots of dog neighbors for playdates. Older kids who want to run around and play with her (but are ok with her still learning her manners). People who want a dog to cuddle on the couch with when not being active. People who want a puppy that is already house trained and has some obedience training but still puppy energy and needs to continue her learning. Lena is crate trained and housebroken. Due to her high energy she would not do well being crated all day long. So anyone gone long hours should play to use doggy daycare for Leena. She would very much love it! Leena is spayed, current on her vaccines and heartworm negative. She is being fostered in DC but can be transported for an approved adopter. Adoption area is CT, NY, NJ, DE, PA, MD, DC, VA, NC, SC. We will consider exceptions for applications longer distance on a case by case basis. ~~Husky Education And Rescue Team is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it's like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you're interested in. If you're still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at www.huskyrescueteam.org/apply If you have additional questions please email [email protected]
