My Story

Little Brother, born July 20, 2023, joined Mattie's Place when his family had to leave the country for extended times and felt it was too disruptive to Little Brother's life to continue boarding him so often. Little Brother (his original name), also known as Little B, weighs in at 25 pounds and is small but also very long. I'm not sure what breeds he's mixed with but his vet records list him as a Cocker Spaniel/Poodle mix. Could be. Please do not apply for Little Brother if you have dog allergies and you think he'll be fine because of his breeds. I have absolutely no confirmation of these breeds. I do not claim, endorse, suggest or hint at, that any of our dogs are hypoallergenic, low shed or no-shed. I personally, as the founder of Mattie's Place have dog allergies. I know how unpredictable dog allergies can be from dog to dog. Some of the dogs I would least expect to trigger my allergies are the ones that do, and Little Brother did trigger an allergic reaction for me having him in my vehicle and handling him on intake before I dropped him off to his foster home. Little Brother is a dog that will require regular grooming. We'll get him freshly groomed in July (our groomer has been booked so photos are pre-groom) prior to his neuter (he also has some deciduous teeth that need to be removed) and he'll likely need to see a groomer every few months, so be sure you have grooming in your dog ownership budget before applying to adopt. Little Brother grew up in a high rise apartment setting, so he's comfortable with elevators and has never had a backyard to hangout in. He has also had a few little humans in his home that he originally came from and he loves kids so much and gets really excited seeing any kids outside and wants to join in the playtime. Little Brother, though he just turned 1 year old, is still very much a puppy with puppy energy and never received formal training so he's lacks some manners and life skills - pulls on leash, can jump up on hello's, goes in hot to meet new dogs etc. Nothing catastrophic or bad behaviour, he just needs some fine tuning in his day to day life skills to be a little more polite. FROM HIS FOSTER: Little brother is a very sweet boy with a lot of puppy energy. He's super playful and loves to entertain himself by pushing his toys off the couch, running to get them, and doing it all over again. He's learning if he brings it to us he can also get us in on the game. He loves to tug, play ball or just squeak and destroy his stuffed animals. He plays well with my 15 pound dog and is very respectful of her smaller size. He loves to go for walks but doesn't really give us any cues he wants to go for a walk or potty. We try to take him out every 3 to 5 hours max through the day, to potty, and that seems to work for him. He sits to get leashed and is quite calm before going for a walk. Though on the walk he pulls quite a bit. Birds & squirrels he will pull after to chase, but he doesn't really pull towards other dogs unless he knows them from our building. We are working on walking on a loose leash and he's made good improvements, but it's a constant work in progress. He's a strong boy for his medium size. He's a cuddle monster who always needs to be close to his people. If my husband or I leave, with one of us staying behind, he does have a bit of separation anxiety where he will cry and wait at the door for quite awhile for our return. If we leave the apartment together he's happy to go into his crate with a kong. Sometimes there is a little soft crying as we leave but he's always quiet when we check on the cameras throughout our time away. He also likes to jump up and put his paws on everyone. Anyone he's close enough to he tries to jump up on. He just wants cuddles from everyone. At home if you're moving from one room to the next he does it as well. He gets down when we ask him too. On walks he'll sometimes leave his sit springboard off people and with his puppy energy if you're not solid with your feet planted on the ground, he could trip you up. He sleeps on a blanket beside the bed, but did sleep in bed with his owners originally and I'm sure would love that option. Once he depletes his puppy energy, he's happy to take a nap wherever his person is. He prefers a blanket on the floor over the dog beds and is also fine with just a bare floor. He's food and treat motivated but not a big eater so we just leave his food out all day to free feed and he nibbles here and there. He eats about 1.5 to 2 cups a day. All in all he's a big sucky baby boy whose looking for love, routine and adventure. ---------------------- To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in his current &/or previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen. We also do not claim, endorse, suggest or hint at, that any of our dogs are hypoallergenic, low shed or no-shed. ----------------------- Adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, go home preventative based on season.
