My Story

Update 6/22/07! Little Foot has now been here in New England for just a few days and she has settled in nicely. She is a friendly, polite little girl and a delight to snuggle on the couch with. She loves to be held and to have her belly scratched. Her beautiful, soft coat and velvet ears make her hard to resist...everyone who has met her has picked her up for a snuggle. She has met a lot of new people in the past five days. I took her into town hall, and the feed store, as well as numerous car trips to run errands. She has been such a fun girl to take along....and quite a big hit with everyone she has met! She has also met our horses, bunnies, cat and other two dogs which has been quite interesting for her I think. The cat of course gets the most attention...but I think she just thinks the cat might want to play. (He does not want to play..he is old and grouchy) She loves kids....well, she loves everyone as a matter of fact.

Little Foot (who we call Nancy) has been doing a great job of letting me know when she needs to go out. Honestly, she is pretty much house trained and was when she got here to our home. She loves her crate and sleeps in it at night by my bed since she arrived. She is quiet all night long until she hears my husbands alarm clock go off...then she just does a little yip. She is doing pretty well at walking along on a leash...but she could use someone to polish that skill with her. She is a smart little pup and would enjoy learning how to do some tricks!

I don't think she will be a big dog...she will probably be the perfect size dog to take in the car. I gave her a bath in my sink...so that is how big she is at almost four months of age which she is as I write this. Little Foot is not a crazy puppy....she likes to play but she is gentle and dainty about it. We have enjoyed watching her chase bugs in the grass. She is curious about her world and it is a joy to watch her explore. We think she is a special puppy and she is going to make her adoptive parent(s) very, very happy.

Little Foot is in NE! She is a sweetheart -- stay tuned for updated pictures! She looks likes a french bull dog/boston terrier mixed with a lab.... but WHO KNOWS what she is!!!!! All we know is.... cute! Or... look at Little Brown (who has new pics) -- they are almost identical -- so those pics will give you an idea of what she looks like now!

Update from their foster 6/13!

Little foot and Little Brown are a wonderful duo. They stay together, they play together and they get along very well with our other dogs. They really keep up with our 2 1/2 year old female chocolate lab as if she is a babysitter or something. They even take naps piled up around her. Little Brown is more dominate than Little Foot and just slightly larger ( not in height but in body style, little brown is more petite).

We have 2 cats, Little Brown likes to bark at the cat a lot, she doesn’t try to hurt the cats just barks at and wants to chase it around. The cat doesn’t seem to be scared of her at all, but one of the cats does hiss at her for barking at her.

They sleep together in a kennel in the house. Only because they are all puppy and will chew on something if not watched. They have been content with chew sticks and raw hides and have gotten the idea that they are going to be given something to chew on, so they expect that. They have not torn up any thing in my house because I noticed that right away and have corrected that with making sure that they do have something to chew on. Little Foot has even been seen getting in her kennel by herself at night when she was ready to go to bed.

Even though they are still babies they are showing a great deal of potential with the things that they are doing now. Little Brown is still having accidents in the house. But with time she should house break well. Little Foot has a softer personality than Little Brown. I would think if I did not know better that little Brown was a boy. She acts like a boy and little Foot acts like a little girl. So if you want a dog with just a little bit more personality it would be Little Brown. If you want a dog with a softer personality it would be Little Foot.

Neither of them cry and neither of them bark except with little foots barking at the cat. But other than the barks at the cat they just don’t aimlessly bark and little foot does not constantly bark at the cat, just when she wants to play with it.

They are beautifully marked. They are jet black with faint brindle legs. They look a lot like a French Bull Dog they just do not have the squatty body. They are both really cute and really sweet. Should not be large breed dogs. I have had them for 3-4 weeks now and they have only grown slightly. They should be on the smaller end of a medium size dog as their mother was. But you never know. Their feet are not huge like a large breed puppies feet would be right now.

Little Foot and her littermates were surrendered to the shelter on 04/09/2007. These pups are part shepherd/lab and maybe boxer mix. They have pointed ears and are the cutest blackest dogs you have ever seen. They are very quiet pups and are just now beginning to play. Check them out, you will love Little Foot. She is the runt of the litter, but she holds her own.

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning "pending adoption".

If this Dog is marked Urgent, it is because the Arkansas shelter where he/she resides is overfull. Please do not ask local shelters to take this dog in, there are many reasons why they cannot. Please also do not send us letters about why we euthanize, AHR does not euthanize, but the shelters we work with do. We are a rescue and we pull as many dogs as we have foster homes and funds for. We, like the shelter, do not have unlimited resources. Please, please: foster, adopt or sponsor a dog to help save their lives.

FOR PUPPIES: HOMES CONSIDERING PUPPIES MUST BE PREPARED FOR:

FLEXIBLE SCHEDULES FOR POTTY TRAINING-THEY CAN ONLY "HOLD" IT FOR ONE HOUR PER MONTH OF AGE.

CRATE TRAINING FOR THE NEXT 10 MONTHS TO KEEP THEM FROM CHEWING EVERYTHING IN SIGHT.

SUPERVISION WITH CHILDREN, AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING.

SOCIALIZATION-A GOOD DOG MUST BE EXPOSED TO ALOT OF STIMULUS AS A PUPPY SO THAT NEW PEOPLE AND ENVIRONMENTS DO NOT INTIMIDATE THEM AS ADULTS. THE MORE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES -IN AND OUT OF THE HOME- AS A PUPPY, THE BETTER.

HOMES THAT WANT TO HAVE GOOD DOGS, MUST BE PREPARED TO PUT THE TIME AND EFFORT INTO TRAINING A PUPPY. IT IS ALOT OF WORK!!! THEIR BEHAVIOR AND STAGES ARE EQUIVILENT TO A 2 OR 3 YEAR OLD CHILD. IT TAKES A FULL YEAR TO HAVE A CALMER, WELL ADJUSTED DOG! PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER ADOPTING IF YOU HAVE NOT THOROUGHLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PROS AND CONS OF A PUPPY...SO MANY PEOPLE END UP RETURNING THEM IN 3-5 MONTHS BECAUSE IT IS CHEWING, JUMPING AND HYPER. THIS IS NORMAL PUPPY BEHAVIOR.

PATIENCE, CHEWIES, SOCIALIZATION, SUPERVISION AND OBEDIENCE TRAINING IS A MUST!!

. We pay a Transportation Service from Arkansas to bring the dogs to New England. The adoption fee is $250.00 for altered dogs. $350. for unaltered puppies, with $100 refundable after spay/neuter.
