$50 Adoption fee! Why so low? Yakima County is spilling over with stray and dumped dogs. Our goal is to get dogs into the right homes ASAP so we can help other dogs in need. It's not about the money, it's about finding the right home for these pups! Louie is a sweet 7 month old boy who is high energy and is looking for a person or family to love and play with! Louie was abandoned in downtown Yakima as a small puppy and has been in foster care for the last 6 months living with another large dog and two children (10 & 5). Louie loves to cuddle, chew on bones, and play chase! He is all puppy--very playful and not always totally aware of how big he's gotten or how to manage those long legs! His favorite thing to do is go on walks with his people to sniff all the things! Louie does pretty well on a leash, with some pulling. With a bit more training, he would be an excellent walking/running companion. Louie is very good with children, though he would do best with children 5 and over, as he doesn't always realize how fast movements can knock little ones down! Louie doesn't know what to make of cats and chases them. Louie is a loyal boy looking for his forever home with people who will love him well! This dog is located in Yakima, WA. INTRODUCTIONS TO DOGS (how does he/she act when meeting dogs): Louie is a bit aggressive when he first meets new dogs. The hair on his back goes up, but his tail wags and he is very excited. He pulls on the leash. INTERACTIONS WITH DOGS: Louie likes to be with other dogs, play ball (though his fetch skills could use work), and he likes to play chase. He loves going for walks and would be excellent for someone who was willing to train a running partner. He love to chew bones and other toys. FOSTER FRIENDS WITH (list the dog’s names that he/she like to play with): Louie has one foster brother who is a 6 year old blue heeler. They are good buddies and like to play and chase balls together. EXPOSURE TO CATS (how many cats/kittens has he/she met): Louie has met one cat. INTERACTIONS WITH CATS: Louie has had one interaction with a cat and he was very curious and chased and barked. He would probably do best in a home without cats. EXPOSURE TO CHILDREN (ages of children he/she has met): Louie has met many children and does very well. He lives with a 10 and 5 year old presently. RECOMMENDATION FOR CHILDREN: He loves kids, but would do best with older kids. Louie doesn’t realize that he can knock little kids down easily! HOUSETRAINED: Yes, uses doggie door. CRATE TRAINED: Yes. MARKS: No. TRAVELING IN A CAR: He moves a lot and has some anxiety, but has learned to like car rides. ACTIVITY LEVEL: High; spends time both inside and out, outside fenced yard. I have a short fence and he does not try to escape. LEASH TRAINED: Does OK BEHAVIOR ON LEASH: Does well as the only dog. When another dog is present he pulls a lot. COMMANDS: Sit, Off RECALL: Pretty good. If you call his name he comes back. TRIM NAILS: Sometimes. He pulls his feet away, but isn’t aggressive. BRUSH: Yes BATHE: He likes the bath! ANY AREA YOU CANNOT TOUCH: No BAD HABITS: Louie is a puppy and still likes to chew. If he has toys available he does a good job of chewing on things he’s supposed to. However, if he doesn’t have toys around, he will find other things to chew on! Louis will talk with you when he wants your attention and when he’s first put in the kennel. I have had great success with a bark collar. Louie is still learning to stay down and can be a little jumpy when he’s excited. ANXIETY ISSUES: Louie isn’t sure about strangers at first, but warms up quickly. He needs to be crated when left alone as he has some separation anxiety.
