My Story

Notes from Lucy's wonderful foster caretaker: "Are you an active individual or family looking for a companion? Lucy is looking for you! She is: *Intelligent *Loyal *Highly trainable *Energetic *Playful Lucy is a well mannered girl, riding in the car peacefully, walking on a loose leash after energy release and doing all her business outside. At 3 years old, she is fully grown and has learned many good manners. We are practicing leash manners and she walks well at the left side. Lucy is also practicing spending the night in her crate. She does whine when separated from us this way, but calms and settles in nicely. Lucy loves walking at the park, even on hot days! She loves chasing a tennis ball in the yard (or in the house, haha!) and she brings the ball back for more, more, more - dropping it in our hands politely. She accepts treats just as gently. Lucy is very calm when we move around her while she is eating, though she has shown that she doesn't like small children putting things in her bowl while she's eating. We feel the same way about our own plates! Lucy loves to receive attention from our two elementary age daughters, but really wants my attention the most. She shows interest in meeting other dogs at the park, but redirects well back to the walk without barking. Lucy tends to overwhelm other dogs with her enthusiasm when meeting, so we recommend that she be the only dog in the house or that a patient introduction might help her adjust to a doggie friend. Lucy is steady around vehicle traffic, bicycles and runners. She shows no fear approaching strangers or new situations, and seems indifferent with children. Lucy likes to rest touching you with a paw and will give an occasional kiss, but is fairly reserved with her affection. She drinks a lot of water and appreciates a bowl kept full. We think Lucy has both Labrador and Shepherd in her beautiful mix- both breeds with highly intelligent and loyal characteristics. She appreciates a good chew toy or puzzle game but has not demonstrated any destructive tendencies in her time with us." Lucy is listed as No Small Children because, though she has had great experiences with children, she has shown that she does not like children putting things in her bowl while she is eating. However, she is successfully living with two elementary aged children in foster without issue (they are away from her while she eats). As always, we strongly recommend bringing any resident dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet with potential new family members to be sure it's a good match. If bringing a dog for a meet and greet, please bring proof of up to date rabies, bordetella, and DHPP vaccines. If this lovely girl sounds like your next best friend, please contact Kendelle Federico at 336-266-4138 via text message or email [email protected].
