Luna is one of the five Chihuahuas transferred to CCRT by an out-of-province shelter as a result of a hoarding situation involving over 50 dogs.
Luna is a very sweet, shy, submissive little girl, about three years old, with lots of love and kisses to give her humans and doggie friends. She’s a happy dog with a tail that’s always wagging. She loves to cuddle, and her favourite thing is sleeping curled up in someone’s lap.
When Luna arrived in rescue she was a “Velcro dog” with separation anxiety, but she has overcome that with help. Understandably, she is often startled by loud or unexpected noises, and she will run and hide until she decides it’s safe. Then she comes out, tail wagging. When she’s really happy to see you she will “talk” in her funny voice that will make you laugh.
In foster care, Luna is friends with the resident male chi and female foster chi in the home. She loves to play-wrestle with the female who is younger, but if play gets a bit too rough, Luna corrects her, until gentle play resumes. Luna was used to being in a pack, and although she has her own doggie bed now, she prefers to cuddle up in one bed with her two housemates.
Luna had never worn a collar, harness or leash before, so she is fearful of them. A condo or apartment is not suitable for her at this time because she has not learned to walk on leash yet. A forever home with a safe, fully fenced backyard is a must for Luna so that she can get her exercise and work on her housetraining.
This needy girl requires a loving forever home with a laid-back environment where her adopter is home most of the time, not gone all day at work. Her adopter must have the time, patience and ability, through positive reinforcement, to help build Luna’s confidence and continue her house-training. Any kids living in the forever home must be dog-savvy and at least 10 years of age.
If there is another dog in Luna’s forever home, she needs it to be gentle, young, playful and of similar size and energy level. Luna can be unfriendly at first when she meets a new dog. No cats, please.
Luna has had a wellness exam, a dental and a heartworm test (negative). She is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and she has recovered from her spay.
If you are interested in adopting Luna and you fit all of this description of her ideal forever home, please fill out an adoption application. You can also purchase a sweater and/or blanket for her or any of our foster dogs. Please consider becoming a CCRT Sponsorship Angel for any of our foster dogs by making a cash donation towards their care.
