My Story

Lydia is a 3-4 year old, 50ish lb beautiful Golden who has some health issues she has overcome and is waiting for her forever family!!! Lydia was found beside of a country road, having a seizure. Now she's stable on meds for seizures. generic med... First for the important health stuff: She has a significant seizure disorder. Her seizure medicine has been increased to three times a day so far she has not had a seizure since she has been on the three times a day dose for several days in a row. She has no adoption fee... Her seizure medicines are going to run around $80 or $85 a month probably at the increased dose and can get generic at Walmart using the goodRX program to help. From her foster mom: "She is an ideal dog for someone who is a "home body" with a fenced yard, and preferably no small kids, who will give her plenty of attention and play with her outside. She is a low key, laid back and house-trained dog and her petite size will certainly be an advantage for a laid back person or couple looking for a lovely companion. Lydia is no fan of taking walks but loves to mosey around in the yard! She stops and sits down repeatedly on leash walks- So I just walked her around and around in the backyard and she will walk next to you and keep you company and she will run towards you once she gets to know you and is happy to see you. It was impossible to get her to walk on the street with the leash using any kind of harness or collar because she just stops dead in her tracks! But she will run some and poke around in the yard. She is fine with other dogs. She is very food focused and we enticed her with a treat to get in the car, and she did great and is proving to be a great car rider! She has limited activity, of her hips and ankles - She can manage one step up or several wide shallow steps, but we are going to see if she can manage to go up to the second floor on carpeted steps. She could not manage a flight of wooden steps with just daylight between the step - steps that were not solid. Lydia does not play w/toys but will show interest in a yummy peanut butter kong! She has shown no signs of food aggression. Lydia responds to verbal correction and is very, very gentle when receiving treats from foster's hands. Lydia has shown no signs of stranger danger. When a couple of repairmen came to her foster's house, Lydia had no anxiety; she was friendly and accepting of their attention. She learned to navigate to steps; she is comfortable in her own dog bed or crate and sleeps through the night, is housebroken and she has free reign of the house at nighttime. She will let her foster know if she needs to go out during the night by just coming up to the foster's bed! When Lydia wants to go out during the day, she will either come to the foster OR go stand at the door. During the day, the house front door is open to a locked glass door; Lydia can see out and she really does not show much interest in the outside world. She is not a barker and she pays no attention to the dogs who live behind her foster mom's 6 foot privacy fence. When dogs bark at Lydia on a walk, she just ignores them. She is crate trained; her foster mom will throw a couple of treats in the crate, Lydia goes in and lays down and has no anxiety when her foster mom secures the door. NOTE: Lydia is ONLY left in the crate when her foster mom has to leave the house for short periods of time. Lydia is a very friendly and laid back dog, who would love to find her forever home!
