My Story

Little Mallory is waiting for YOU in California! Many thanks to her foster who gave us everything she knows about Mallory: Mallory, the petite (under 45 lbs!) Chinese Shar-Pei and possible Red Heeler mix, arrived at the high-kill shelter as a mother, only to face the heartache of being separated from her puppies. Despite this hardship, she remains resilient, her spirit unbroken, striking a perfect balance between sweetness and courage. Believed to be under 2, she loves to play with other dogs and the occasional toy. Recently discovering the joy of walks, she has quickly become a big fan, embracing exploration with tail-wagging enthusiasm! Fully potty trained and incredibly gentle when taking treats, she exemplifies the adaptability and intelligence of her breed. Her affable nature extends to all—humans and canines alike—though she approaches the exuberance of children with cautious curiosity. While not always seeking out cuddles, she welcomes them with a soft, accepting grace, often melting into sweet little kisses. A vigilant guardian of her home, and a bit hard headed, she takes pride in keeping an eye on the house. Her favorite spot is perched by the front window, where she can watch the world go by. With a strong prey drive, she's always ready to chase any bird, squirrel, or lizard she sees. Feeding time is her moment of solitude, a preference that helps maintain peace among the pack. This very special girl will allow you to give her attention all day or find her own way to pass the time, likely basking in the sun, lounging on the couch, or gazing out the window. Bullet points: •Under 2 years old. •Takes treats very gently. •Loves meeting new people and playing with other dogs, but it is recommended that she not be housed with another dominant alpha dog. •Due to her high prey drive, a house with cats is not recommended. •She has been fine with the kids she has met, but they are a little scary to her at first, especially when loud and hyper. •She is still learning basic commands like “Sit” but knows how to only potty when on walks and is learning “stay” when I leave the house. •She can pull on leash a bit, especially on her first walk before she goes potty. •She lets me cuddle her and seems to enjoy it, but does not come up to me asking for it. •She sleeps through the night really well. •She is a good protector and will alert you if she senses trouble, taking pride in her role. •She loves to be pet, and gives sweet little kisses when you connect with her. •I do like to keep her separated when feeding as she can be a bit food protective. •Seems to listen well to corrections. •Does not like water, but will let you bathe her. Preferred the bath I think more than the shower. •Spayed and up to date with vaccines.
