My Story

• Name: March (aka Patty) • Male or female? Female • Approximate Age: 8 months 3 weeks • Breed (cat or dog): Unknown (Shepherd/Husky mix) • Weight: 45 lbs • Any impairments: Visually impaired and neurologist said she presented neurological abnormalities but no further treatments, etc. would be required. • Potty trained? Still working on communicating when she needs to go out but otherwise yes. • Crate trained? Yes • Good with other dogs? No • Good with cats? No • Good with kids? No • Location: Grove City/Columbus, OH. • Energy level (high/med/low)? High This is March! She's a mutt and an incredibly sweet dog. She's got some special needs that set her apart from most other dogs. She was born with pockets of water in her brain and is completely blind. The brain injury causes her to spin right randomly and even more so when she's really happy (picture zoomies except spinning). It also affects her ability to be around loud noises, other animals, and children under 13 years old. When calm, she gets around just fine and has pretty incredible spatial awareness. Her favorite activity while at Wolfman's Canines, is being able to sniff aimlessly and have the entire off leash training area to herself. She has some bladder control, but would do best with either a diaper or being confined in a long term confinement area when you're not present. She loves getting neck scratches and when you're in her circle of trust, you get to experience love from a dog who has simple wants and specific needs. Her leash walking abilities are not the best, and when spooked will attempt to back away in a way in which she could hurt herself. Her brain doesn't process leash pressure as other dogs will. So a harness or slip lead would be best. March is food motivated to an extent and doesn't respond as fast to the non aversive methods of training as most other dogs do. She has the capability to learn, she just needs the time and space to be able to do so. With the extent of her brain injury, her cognitive decline and overall health could happen at a much early age. She has been seen by the OSU veterinarian's and has a detailed report by them. She also comes with on going training and support from Wolfman's Canines. Her prefect home would be in a quite environment with room to explore and rest her head at night. She is a single dog only and would do best in a home with teenage children. Special exceptions could be made for multi dog households if a home visit can be made to verify her living space. She should have minimal expectations put on her in regards to normal dog behavior. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccines & preventatives.
