My Story

Meet Marisposa aka BELLY (you'll learn why)! This sweet angel came to PACC with severe valley fever. She has been in foster care for almost a year now and improving so much! She is soooo sweet- likes to give kisses and her paw for attention. -She is great with kids! She can be a bit forward with her kisses and gentle kids are recommended due do her illness as she is still working on getting stronger every day. - Belly has done great with our older male rescue who has a tendency to be discerning in selecting his pals. She is an accomplice to his backyard hide-and-seek with the lizards and shows no concerning signs of resource guarding or competition with him -Shes tolerated well large amounts of people in a small area and has also done well in vastly different environments such as camping on a quiet mountain. -Belly seems to get a little anxious while shes home alone. She does well with having something to occupy her. Weve experimented with a variety of enrichment toys. Shes been too quick with puzzles weve tried for them to be of much value, but she does like having a bone or other treat to work at. When shes unoccupied and home alone shes sometimes made up her own games to occupy her mind, such as the break-into-the-closed-pantry-and-raid-it game or the drag-the-20lb-storage-container-of-Christmas-ornaments-up-the-step-and-knock-it-over-into-the-path-of-the-roomba game. This has been a rare occurrence and, honestly, has been a great sign of progress with her condition. The better she feels the more we see her spicy side. -Belly gets nervous when shes cut off from her people and can still hear them, but shes shown zero signs of fear in any other instances. She famously throws herself on the floor and goes belly-up for anyone and everyone willing to give her attention. -She has a crate that she occasionally independently chooses to sleep in at night once in awhile. Her favorite place to sleep, however, is on the couch with her head on a pillow and/or her belly in the air. -She is house trained and can use a doggy door! -She does OK in the crate for the most part and doesnt seem to mind it during the night. She could use more positive reinforcement with future crate training if her adopters want to use it more. -She is mediocre on the leash LOL. She was in too much pain in the beginning to go on walks but now she can go longer distances and is getting better! - You can describe Belly as A super friendly social butterfly. She loves everyone. - Well if it wasnt obvious before, Belly is called Belly because she often lays on her back with her tummy exposed. She loves to put a leg or two straight up into the air as well. She is looking for an adopter that is willing to continue her treatment for valley fever and follow up on her care. Reach out to us today if interested!
