My Story

Marte (aka "Marte de la Calle") was found on the side of a highway in Baja Sur, Mexico. He had been thrown from a moving vehicle but even though his pain, his joyful and happy personality shone through as we scooped him up and took him to the vet. Even though Marte hasn't even lived two years of his life, he's been through a lot. Upon arriving at the hospital, we learned that Marte had two broken back legs - one femur and one knee. Surgery or a double amputation were his only options so we decided to help him THRIVE and chose surgery. It worked! He's one of the fastest pups in the pack and is full of joy and life. He sits a bit funny, as one of his legs is twice as long as the other, but to us that makes him even cuter. Marte is a lover of all humans and a boy he is excited to LIVE. He is always happy to see you and will dramatically wiggle his entire body upon greeting all of the humans and if he's REALLY stoked, he likes to hug you with his "flappers" (aka paws). Marte has been professionally trained by Flash Dog Training and comes with a few owner lessons too. He can still be a bit excitable but is always full of love and joy, never malice. He's approximately 40 lbs and our best guess on his breed is boxer/lab mix. Adaptors need to be aware that due to his accident, Marte will have ongoing needs in regard to the health of his back legs and hips. He has recently been diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia but that doesn't stop him. He's on CBD and a monthly shot to help with the pain, which he rarely seems to show signs of because nothing stops his joyous personality. Marte is great with humans of all sizes but because he is so excitable, we recommend he goest to a home with kids over 5 and no dogs or one calm dog. He still has some work to do with his love for other dogs as since he has some physical limitations, he can get defensive and scared. With proper introductions though, he loves all of his four-legged doggie friends! Please apply to adopt on our website and then we can setup a meet and greet/put you in contact with the foster!
