My Story

Meet Mason!!! Oh what a face! Are you looking for a GREAT dog? Cute, smart, athletic, fun, super temperament and lovable? Then Mason might be the perfect dog for you!!

Mason is an ADORABLE mystery mix. He might be part beagle. His coloring looks like a Rottweiler, but we don't know what exactly he his. He has a sweet, endearing droopy eyed face. He's just adorable. Mason is a very sweet pup. He's about 11 months old. He's only 35 pounds.

Mason is a very sweet boy and has a very gentle nature. He is very polite and smart, he learns tricks very easily. He knows how to sit, down, shake, and will wait until you say 'ok' to take his treat and 'go lay down' and we are teaching him to stand up as well. He really could be a circus dog with how quick he learns tricks. He also knows the hand signals for sit 'finger up' and down 'point down'. He is house broken and will let you know when he needs to go outside to do his business. He is still learning to come right away when called but he will come right toward you if there is a treat involved. We almost changed his name to 'treat' as he really loves them.

Mason loves to walk and be outside, he will need a home where he will get lots of exercise. He loves to be out in the backyard to sniff and watch the squirrels, he does a little digging and loves to sniff around the yard and watch what is going on. He really loves other dogs and does fantastic at the dog park, with both people and dogs. He has never been aggressive or upset if another dog does not like him, he just doesn't understand why someone would not love him. He has done great at the pet store and always get so many compliments on his cute little face, he loves to meet new people and dogs.

Mason is currently in a foster home with one other dog - a female Rottweiler. The pictures show Mason snuggling with his foster sister. Mason has also had play dates with other dogs and always does superb! He loves to play with his foster dog sister and he also really loves his bones and chew toys. He loves to play and chase his squeaky toys and amuses his foster family with all his games and playing. He does not get upset if a dog or someone takes his toy away and is learning to 'release' very well.

Mason does well and is very patient with young children. He has been very good with small children following him around and giving hugs and kisses. He can be a little jumpy if excited but is learning that is not allowed and he even will take treats from a 2 year old very gently. He loves to follow his foster family's 2 year old around as he has learned she gives him her food when no one is looking, but he waits until it is given to him. We are now training the 2 year old to not do that, but Mason is easier to train then she is. We recently had a party for her and there was lots of small kids around and Mason was following them all around and sitting in front of them nicely in the hopes they would feed him.

Mason walks well on leash and is a very good walking, jogging or hiking companion. He would love to run, either with his family or at the dog park. Mason is still getting used to driving in the car, he is a little nervous and will cry a little but will stop when he can chew on his bone as that always makes him feel better. He recently went to the beach and loved it and did much better in the car, but it is not his favorite mode of transportation.

Mason is crate trained and will sleep in it at night. He is happier sleeping at the foot of the bed, but he will sleep in his crate if told. He is crated during the day if none is home as he still has some puppy chewing behavior, and as he has had some anxiety in the past it is best to keep him in his crate with a bone or toy.

Mason sometimes whines to get your attention, but more often this is his way to say he needs to go to the bathroom. He does bark and get excited when people come in the house but calms down right away. We are working on this behavior and he will listen when you tell him 'No'. His foster dog sister does not help as this is one her issues as well, so we are working on this for both of them.

Mason was around cats in his previous foster home and did very well with them. Due to their own dog having back surgery, he needed to find a new foster home.

He is a well mannered puppy that would love to find his forever home. He can be a little upset when left alone, so Mason must go to a home with another dog. When his people are gone, it's best to keep him occupied with a bone or toy in his crate and he is ok with the fact his foster sister is not crated. Mason would ideally like to live in a home with access to a backyard as he loves to go outside and will watch at the window for squirrels or just to see what is going on. He would benefit from a home that someone is able to be with him for large portions of the day and not left in his crate all day. He would need to be walked or receive as much exercise as possible as he is still an activity puppy with lots of great energy.

If you have time for a smart and active and sweet dog, Mason would be a great best friend to you and your family.

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes.

All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have adoption events at the Beaverton PetSmart every other Saturday where you can meet many of our dogs at once. Click Here for our Calendar of Events. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail via the e-mail link at the bottom of the page ("Email Indigo Rescue") with answers to the questions below. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?

What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)

What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?

Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?

Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?

Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)

Do you own or rent your home?

What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)

Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?
