This sweet boy was cared for, but he has been an outdoor dog for a number of years now - and we think ALL dogs should have a WARM and COMFY INDOOR home to relax in - even more so when they get older. This is a very sweet boy, very expressive. He is about 8 years young - in our context he should be playing golf in an "active adult" community, he's not geriatric! He's also a little larger than most labs - weighing in at about 120 lbs.! He doesn't look that big, though. He has a thick and BEAUTIFUL coat that you will LOVE to rub your hands through. He seems to be fine with most other dogs and is more human-oriented than dog. We aren't sure about his potty training, since he was outside for so long, but he has thus far done very well - if he isn't already, then he's almost there.
His foster mom says: "He took possession of my arm (for belly rub) and one of our sofas immediately. He is a sweet, sweet boy! I sat next to him on the sofa and he sat up, clawed me, hooked my arm with one paw, and stuck his head under my arm so that I had his head under my arm. When I moved it to met his head, he rolled over and gave me his belly. Who wouldn't want a mellow couch potato pooch like this one?" Although he's mostly Lab, there's a touch of something else in him that gives him his jowly face, beautiful, thick coat, sturdy build and Clydesdale feet. After much discussion and speculation, many of us see some Saint Bernard traits in him.
We're listing Matteo as special needs, although they are very mild. He may have a touch of arthritis, or an old injury that occasionally flares up, in one of his back legs. And, he needs some EXTRA-SPECIAL loving, to make up for all his time outside. Maybe YOU are the extra-special person to give him that?
The adoption fee for this dog is $250, which covers the cost of routine vet care, as well as spay/neuter surgery.
