My Story

Meet Maverick! He is a handsome young husky who is finally ready for adoption. We do not know much about his past. He was found as a stray, very dirty with matted hair. While we cannot confirm the breed without a DNA test, we are pretty sure he is a Siberian Husky. We do not know what the parents look like, but we think Maverick will be around 50 - 60 pounds as he matures. He is 100% young man, meaning he has some manners, and will need a patient and dedicated owner to work with him on all thing's basic obedience and socialization. He is also Husky, meaning he has been bred for over 1500 years to run. A Husky does not stop at fences, street crossings or county lines. This breed are escape artists. They can manipulate most gate latches and door handles. They are known climbers and diggers. A fence (and a secure one) is required. Huskies also have a very strong prey drive. They cannot be trusted around cats, rabbits, goats, etc. This breed is nonaggressive but can appear intimidating. They are not good watch dogs as they seldom bark; rather they howl or "talk" to you. Siberians are manipulative and driven by food and jealousy. While not regular shedders, they do blow their entire undercoat twice a year and during this time must be brushed out. This breed has a very strong pack mentality, and if raised with a small animal such as a cat, many have accepted the cat (or rabbit, or goat) as a member of its pack and have lived happily ever after. It is STRONGLY recommended that you introduce a Husky slowly and with supervision to smaller farm animals before ever trusting them alone. Never, ever trust your Husky off leash. They will bolt without warning after a squirrel, etc., and will run like the wind, through traffic, through fences, etc. Siberians are considered a medium size dog with huge personalities and above average intelligence. They are a difficult breed to keep, and an experienced owner is highly recommended. Maverick has been around other dogs and seems to do well, but socialization must continue. Typically, in a household environment, the Husky recognizes his family as his "pack" and that includes children. He has the typical vocal range of a husky. Thus, we suggest you research the breed to understand their traits. He is currently growing up in a shelter setting, and his personality is constantly changing. He is at the age where he needs to be in a home in order to thrive and get the care and attention he needs to learn and grow. He is a playful young man and would love to find a home with a yard and an active owner. He is up to date with vaccines, dewormed, chipped, and on monthly prevention. He is neutered. Maverick travels well in a vehicle. If you have a dog at home, we are happy to help you introduce them and see how they do here at the rescue before committing to adopt. The breeds listed are a guess based on features and characteristics. We cannot guarantee the size or breed of any dog without a DNA test.** Adoption Application: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSerWLl0aYjOo-cXYBUviy-5t1NWT3zt1HnslSFl5BfHbaXTag/viewform?usp=sf_link (copy/paste link)
