My Story

Apply here: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/ Welcome Max! This sweet guy is new to our program from the local shelter. He is around eight years old and weighs 61 pounds. We are so happy to have him and know you’ll love him too! Housebreaking, Crate-Training, and Commands Max is both housebroken and crate trained! He hasn’t had a single accident in his foster home. He goes into his kennel when asked and immediately settles at night. When he thinks a party is happening without him during the day, he does get a little upset but eventually quiets down and is happy to hang out until he’s let back out. Behavior around other Dogs, Cats, and Kids Max is a PERFECT dog’s dog! He loves to play and is pretty good at reading others’ social cues. He isn’t reactive and has been a joy to have around his foster canine siblings. He also has been great with children! He’s met children aged 1.5-12 and he has been great with all of them -- especially given that they were respectful of him. Behavior around People Max is a friendly guy. He may give a “hey, i’m here!” bark, but otherwise he’s excited to smell new friends and get pets from them. He is a pretty mellow guy but loves to get pets (but isn’t needy in any sense of the word). He loves to give little licks and it makes his foster mom’s heart so happy! Exercise Needs True to the breed, Max is an active boy and age hasn’t slowed him down! He loves to go for walks and to run and to get his energy out with his favorite people. He will let you know that he’s antsy (pacing and whining) and that’s your cue to get moving! He even will take matters into his own hands and throw a ball around for himself if he’s got a ball. We’ve all become a bit smitten with Max and think you will, too! Contact us today! If you’d like to be considered to adopt, the first step in the process is to submit an application through our website: http://athenscaninerescue.com/adoption-procedures/. Our adoption fee is $250 per dog over the age of 6 months and $300 per dog 6 months or younger. We accept payment by Venmo, PayPal, or card. This includes: basic vet care (i.e. basic vaccinations, including boosters completed after adoption, spay/neuter, heartworm/flea preventatives, and treatment for any health needs while in our care), a microchip, a week’s worth of food for the trial-period, and a harness lead. All in state applications will be considered with some preference given to more local applications. WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING OUT OF STATE APPLICATIONS FOR DOGS SIX MONTHS OR YOUNGER. We do not have a facility and operate through a network of foster homes. Thus, we do not have a phone number. If you’d like to discuss potential adoptions, please email at [email protected].
