Hi, I'm Maya! I LOVEEEEEEE to play! Whether that be with a stuffed toy, a ball, or the pool, I am always ready to run around! Sadly, I am not able to get all my energy out in the shelter environment, which can make me be a little mischievous sometimes, but it is all in good fun! Once I am able to stretch my legs and run around for a little bit, I do let my cuddly side out to my human friends. I love to rub all over them and pretend to be a lap dog! Sometimes, it takes me a little while to make friends with people as I have to vet them out first. Are they going to provide me a fair amount of treats? Are they going to pet me in my favorite spot (under my chin)? Will they throw my ball at least 100 times daily (I can compromise, maybe)? All questions I need answers to before feeling relaxed around them... Doggie friends can be a little overwhelming for me, and I am still not sure how I feel about them. Sometimes they can be really scary to me and I try to hide, other times I cannot contain my excitement and I want to be all over them! With that being said, I am always willing to meet other dogs at the shelter and see if the vibe is right! Maya is a Diamond Dog and can be shown by appointment, or by walk-ins as staff availability permits. Diamond Dogs are dogs that are currently receiving special training from staff and volunteers through our behavior modification program.
