My Story

Mercedes 1 Year Old Chocolate Labrador Mix, 52 Pounds, Will be Spayed Background: Mercedes was picked up as a stray in Merced, along with another black Lab, that we think was her brother; he was pulled by another rescue. A shelter volunteer described Mercedes as high energy, very friendly, and plays well with other dogs. What Mercedes' Foster Says: first foster: We named her Mercedes, Mercy for short. She is a very sweet and energetic young dog. We've only had her for two nights. - Is she crate trained? Yes - Sleeps in the crate through the night? Not sure. Last night I took her out for a pee and poop at 3:30am. First night, she was coughing all night. - Any accidents? Two little pees of excitement the first day when she met a new human - both female, might be coincidence - Has she signaled to go outside? Yes, restless in her crate, or, if untethered, she walks out the back door herself - Good with your dog? Yes - How is she on walks? We are using a harness, because we heard the collar and leash can put extra strain on her neck when coughing. She zig zags a little, is strong, but no inappropriate pulling, or aggressive human interactions. No dog interactions at all because of the cough. - how did she do in the car? No problem - any other info? She’s a sweet dog; just needs a bit of extra TLC to be nursed back to health after the streets and the shelter. Week 2 and 3 foster: This girl is a sensitive sweetheart. When I've given her baths or "uh-uh" to stop doing something, she stops what she's doing and becomes quite subdued, looks like she feels as if she's being punished. She is a cuddler once she gets to know you. She is an alarm barker for people at the door and those approaching the car. She likes to chew on things, chase balls, belly rubs, and counter surfing. What Mercedes' Rescue Rep Says: Mercedes just arrived (6/10/24) from the shelter in Merced. We are learning more about her. She's been shuffled around a bit since we got her. We had a short term foster take care of her until she was supposed to head to her longer term foster but with the kennel cough, we quarantined her with another short term foster who didn't have a dog before she headed to her longer term foster where she arrived on 6/28/24. All reports, thus far, have been that she is a sweet, somewhat timid girl. She is an alert barker and lets you know when someone's at the door. Medical: Mercedes is recovering from kennel cough and being treated for Giardia. She will be spayed and microchipped.
