Hello there, I'm Mercury and I've been living at the shelter since April of 2023. Thats a long time for a dog to be wishing and hoping for a family. That's a whole year plus, of watching families come and go, and yet, here I am, still waiting for my forever home. I'm tired of being overlooked, tired of waiting. But I haven't given up hope. My person is out there, and maybe, just maybe, it's you. Life here is predictable; I know the routine like the back of my paw. I dash to my kennel when playtime is over, and I've got my favorite spots like the out side dog run. The staff and volunteers, they're my temporary family, and they shower me with love every day, and in return I give them as many slobbery kisses they want. They believe in me, and believe my family will come soon. Every week, I strut my stuff at Prairie Oaks Metro Park, my "Adopt Me" leash fluttering in the wind, hoping someone will notice me. But so far, no luck. I don't understand why I'm still here. I hear the whispers, the promises that my day will come, and I cling to that hope. I'm a pro on the leash, especially when there's a treat waiting for me! I'm smart, too, I love to learn and I already know 'sit', 'down', and 'shake', you name it, I can master it. I would really love to be out there, exploring the world with you. Hiking, camping, festivals—I'm ready for it all. And car rides? I'm your perfect co-pilot. I have even been to the local coffee shop for a yummy puppicino and to show off to the staff and patrons how much of a good boy I am. I love to play with other dogs, as long as they can keep up with my zest and excitement for playtime. Sometimes I get so excited that I can be a bit much for the shy ones, but I'm sure there's a perfect canine companion out there for me. But I would also be just fine to be your solo canine companion! Kids are pretty cool humans(if you ask me), especially the older ones who are used to having dogs around and know how to properly treat me and play with me! I could see my days being filled with lots of games of fetch and running around with them. I try my hardest to keep my kennel is clean, but overnights are hard for me. I dream of a home where I don't have to 'hold it' all night. I know with a little patience and time, I'll ace house training. All I need is a chance to show you smart I am. The price includes: a Home Again Microchip, set of shots, de-worming, heartworm testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a 1 year rabies shot (if old enough). All dogs adopted must leave with a county license at an additional cost of $17, this fee is cash only. Adoption fees can be done using credit card or cash.
