Mercury

Meet Mercury, a 3 year old APBT looking for his forever home! Mercury has been living with me for the past 2 months and is learning lots of new skills. He is good with people and enjoys meeting new friends. He can get a little too excited at times but he is learning how to settle down. Mercury has had incidents of resource guarding with kids and he tends to get a little too rough with them, so he needs a home with teenagers or adults. He can be successful with other dogs when given a proper introduction and time to adjust but does best with dogs that can be neutral towards him. He has displayed resource guarding issues in the past with other dogs but I have not had any instances of this during his time with me, although that does not mean he doesn’t have the potential to resource guard if unmonitored. Mercury is a very people oriented dog and would make for a great companion, whether you want to stay in bed cuddling all day or go out for adventures. He has very high food and toy drive and would make a great sport dog. He already has a foundation with the slat mill and I plan to get him started with some other GRC sports soon. Mercury is muzzle trained, ecollar trained, kennel trained, potty trained, clicker trained, knows his basic obedience, and walks nicely on leash with the right tools and consistency. He can be leash reactive towards dogs but is learning more appropriate behaviors. He has lived with cats and done fine with them, but he can be rude and overly interested. Mercury does have environmental allergies, as well as food allergies (I think to either chicken or beef). He is doing well on the food and supplements I have him on now but does still get occasional flare ups. He is neutered and up to date on his vaccines. Mercury needs a home that will be willing to put in the time to help teach him how to be the best dog he can be, I will be happy to do sessions with anyone interested in him to help set him up for success with a new home.
