My Story

Momma Metro! Metros rescue journey has been a wild one! This absolutely beautiful dilute brindle pittie momma was abandoned in Tulsa Ok early in 2023. When her body began to decline, a rescuer took notice that despite her having a collar and assuming she was owned, she obviously wasn't being cared for by anyone, so she started posting her on social media and trying to find her a rescue. This sad baby took shelter at a local business in their shed. Metro had sores all over her body, she was underweight, and as soon as she found a safe spot she began fiercely protecting it not allowing of rescue efforts. It was soon discovered that it's because she had puppies in the shed and she was in momma bear mode. 2 rescuers with very big hearts kept their distance for weeks but made sure that momma Metro had access to fresh food and water every day and she began to trust them. Unfortunately, once she was comfortable and at a point to be rescued, no rescue had room to take her in. One day, her pups began to explore and made their way out of the fence at the property into a busy street where a passerby stopped to get them out of the road. Metro out of reaction for her startled and screaming puppy barreled at this good Samaritan very much scared and only trying to protect her child; frightened the man who had hands on her baby and animal control was called labeling her as an aggressive stray dog. Because of liability issues for the business, and them not wanting to take ownership - animal control waited for Metro to leave to seek food and took all of her babies to the shelter. They came back looking for Metro the next day with a trap and she was no where to be found. Lucky for her, the original rescuers had caught wind of all that had occurred and took Metro food that evening where they reported she was in great distress and panicked looking for her babies. She made no hesitations in taking their offer for safety and got right in the car with them which saved her from being euthanized at a high kill shelter. The sweet man who took Metro home while seeking sanctuary for her became unexpectedly very ill and had to turn Metro over to a rescue. Her story tugged at my heart, and I knew i had to save her, so that's what I did. Like most pitties, Metro is a genuine wiggle butt who LOVES people, kids, dogs, cats, and everything in between. It didn't take her long to realize that some people are good and were only trying to help her. She just didn't understand yet. We got her skin healthy again from her severe allergies and flea dermatitis, got her weight back on her and had her spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Metro is an easy and laid back companion dog and very much is a grateful rescue dog. She has beautiful soul melting eyes and a precious smile that makes it hard to deny her anything she wants. Her only slight inconvenience is her fear of thunder and fireworks which requires her to have a special kennel that will go with her when she's adopted. This is for her safety and your homes safety. We have found that a thunder-shirt, a safe space and some music will help to soothe her during loud booms but what soothes her most is laying in your lap. She thinks she's much smaller than she is :) Metro has a little localized mass cell tumor on her side /rear that we will have removed before she's adopted and doesn't affect her quality of life going forward. It is possible they will return but can be removed if that happens. Old lady lumps if you will. Right now, she's in a foster home in Tulsa, OK but can be adopted anywhere in the United states. Her adoption fee is $100. Metro is cat, dog, and kid friendly making her a perfect example of this sometimes misunderstood breed.
