My Story

Animal Profile: Mama Mia was surrendered to a rescue partner in Texas when she had an accidental litter. Her family wanted to make sure that they all found good homes, and we agreed to help! Her puppies are here, and Mia is Seattle bound. She can be a little shy but does warm up quickly. She has become a lap dog in her foster home in the absence of her puppies, and we can't wait to see her shine in the PNW. Foster Update June 26th: How cute is Mia?! She is also incredibly sweet, but after months on the streets and in a shelter, then a few more with fosters (I'm her third), she is also very shy and timid. She needs a forever home that is committed to putting in the time (might be weeks, but also might be months) and energy needed to help her become a truly happy, confident dog When she first arrived, Mia wouldn't come near me and would cower if I came too close or moved too quickly. We've been together for about three weeks now, and she has made great progress! She has learned to enjoy scratches and affection (on her terms), but, so far, she does not like to be picked up. She has discovered toys and is beginning to play and wag her tail. Mia is fully house-trained, and has had no accidents. She doesn't love being put in the crate but will usually settle down within about five minutes. In addition to confidence building work, Mia will need more basic training, as she's not great with things like recall. Mia's absolute favorite thing in the world is going for a walk. Really. This girl LOVES walks! She doesn't pull on the leash, but she will criss-cross in front of you, so needs more leash work. Mia likes other dogs, but is apprehensive at first. A friend has a Yorkie that she absolutely adores and loves playing with, but when we come across the other dogs out on walks, she will often move away or even hide behind me. She has let a few come up to her and sniff her, but only if they move slowly and our relatively small. Mia has been one of my favorite fosters, and is turning into the sweetest little girl. She just needs the right home and some help building up her confidence. She would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard, and no small children. She would benefit from and like, from the companionship of another dog, but it's got to be the right dog for her. We think she would do well in a home with one (or more!) friendly dogs under 20lbs. And, I suspect she might do OK with a cat, but that has not been tested. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate.
