My Story

PLEASE READ THE INFORMATION IN THE DOG'S PROFILE, AS WELL AS THE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE BEFORE EMAILING US WITH QUESTIONS. Our Volunteers use up valuable time answering questions, when the answers are readily available on our website. Our adoptions come with 30 days of free post-adoption support through Petcademy.org. We are a foster-based rescue. We do not have a facility. MEET & GREETS FOR DOGS IN ONTARIO WILL ONLY BE ARRANGED ONCE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IS APPROVED. THANK YOU!!! Please visit our website for more information: https://www.niagaradogrescue.com/ or fill in our adoption application: https://niagaradogrescue.com/adoption-application.php OUT-OF-TOWN Dogs with NDR refer to dogs we have saved that have yet to make their journey to Ontario. These dogs are currently in our care with the help of our partners in the area. These dogs will all travel to the Niagara Region once an appropriate adopter or local foster is found. This dog is currently located in: Mexico Name: Mia (20240517-08) Weight: 44lbs Age: 2 years Gender: Female Medical issues: None Breed: Labrador mix Colour: tan Neck size (for collar): Height (from top of head): Length (from nose to base of tail): Crate size recommended: Good with women: yes, a little shy at first Good with men: yes, a little shy at first Good with children: yes, older recommended as she is shy at first Good with other dogs: yes Good with cats: unknown, she has not been tested - test is possible House trained: yes Crate trained: no Can be handled/touched: yes Flight risk: yes, until she forms a bond with her family Food aggressive: no Current food: Generic dry food Energy level: medium energy Barks: rarely Walks on leash: yes, but we use harness and she feels secure Leash reactive: no Destructive: no Rides well in car: needs work/confidence Needs a home with a yard: preferred Needs a home with another dog: no, but she would do well with one Can live in apartment: basement apartment or townhome would be fine History: Mia's journey began with a heartbreaking surrender - she, along with her eight puppies, was left in a secluded area with the intention of being killed. Fortunately, I stumbled upon them and brought them home. However, tragedy struck when three of her puppies passed away inexplicably after a few weeks. To ensure their safety, I placed the remaining puppies in a foster home, but unfortunately, three were stolen. Despite this ordeal, Mia has found happiness with her two remaining puppies, Micky and Maki. Personality: Mia is a stunning dog with a gentle soul. She enjoys playing with toys and plastic bottles on her own. While she gets along well with other dogs, she values having her own space. Mia is lovely, sweet, and incredibly intelligent, always quick to obey when called. The perfect family for Mia would be one that is calm, with perhaps one other dog, ideally a senior family who can provide her with the second chance she deserves. When Mia is in a new environment or people, she needs a little time to warm up. Mia normally finds herself a place in the house to feel protected like a place under the stairs, a room, or a bathroom, that she can use when she feels a little nervous. I think she feels protected in small, quiet, and secluded spaces.
