My Story

AMAR fosters, Minnie and Romeo, in PORT CHARLOTTE, FL are ready to find their furever homes. They came to us from a family who loved them very much, but they have a young child with a serious heart condition they have to attend to. Both dogs are extremely loving and sweet and would be perfect for a retiree. Though they came in together, they aren't very bonded and their foster mom thinks they would be fine in separate homes being the one and only. Both dogs have well managed diabetes and are very good about getting their daily insulin shots. They're on Vetsulin which has a lower cost than some insulin. Both dogs are UTD with vaccines, microchipped and recently had dentals. MINNIE Minnie is a 7-pound, friendly, spayed girl who loves everyone she meets and showers them with kisses. She is 13-years-old and was loved by her former family. She is an insulin-dependent diabetic with diminished vision. She also has displasia in her right rear leg, but it doesn't seem to slow her down. She enjoys walks and can't really go up and down stairs. She but could be injured easily because of sight limitations so we keep an eye out for where she walks. Minnie "senses" dogs and people and will bark at them. She will run blindly in any direction and knows no fear, so she must be on leash outside. She is housebroken and drinks lots of water, so needs walks to tinkle every 3 to 4 hours. Minnie likes being held and she could run a carnival kissing booth... she goes right for lip kisses. ? She has a very good appetite and eats a nutritionally sound, well-balanced, diabetic mix of Wellness Core dry food with Call of the Wild canned food. Twice daily (every 12 hours) within an hour after meals, insulin injections are required. She's very good about getting those shots. She also has been diagnosed with a heart murmur. Minnie deserves to be with someone willing to make her medical care a priority with a commitment to high quality diabetic food and treats. She begs for people food, but it is strictly off limits. When her diabetes is in check, six month vet visits for monitoring are sufficient. If you think this little love bug, Minnie, will fit perfectly in your life and you live within driving distance of Port Charlotte, FL, please fill out an adoption application on a computer rather than a mobile device: https://www.americanmalteserescue.org/adoptapplication.html
