My Story

Miss Millicent Hopewell Backstory: Millicent was found as a stray near a strip mall and dropped off at an overcapacity animal control facility. Our rescue was asked to help get her out as soon as possible, and we pulled her to safety to give her the second chance she deserves! She was found neglected and completely covered in mats and dirt. We do not know how long she was left, but thankfully she made it through. She is impressively forgiving and very trusting and loving of humans. Get to Know Miss Millicent Hopewell: Millicent is as sweet as they come. She is Shih Tzu in every way. She just wants to be near her people, to love them and be loved by them. She gives the sweetest kisses without being slobbery about it. Millicent gets along with everyone from small dogs, cats, and especially people. Age: approximately 8-10 Weight: 14.5 Spayed: yes Heart worm: negative Flea and tick treatment: yes Dental: Yes. Cleaning and tooth extractions just completed in May. Bloodwork: Normal ranges with minor elevated exceptions that are not alarming. We can provide bloodwork levels for you if you are interested. Vaccines: rabies, distemper, bordetella, coronavirus Potty trained: She goes on potty pads indoors as well as outside when we take her out into the garden IMPORTANT NOTE AND UPDATE! Millicent currently needs eyedrops for glaucoma. Her levels are now normal because of the three eyedrops given to her morning and night. Millicent is mostly blind with possible sight out of a sliver of one of her eyes. It has just been determined by an ophthalmologist that Millicent is a candidate for cataract removal surgery, and Animal Saints is in the process of making this happen for her. This will allow her to regain sight in her right eye, and it is an honor to do this for her! What this means is that her adoption will not happen until after the surgery is successfully completed in the next 8 weeks. If you are interested in adopting Millicent, you are welcome to apply now with the understanding that the adoption will not be made official until AFTER the surgery. We are looking for an adopter who has experience tending to eyes with glaucoma and understands the diligence it takes to keep up with the eyedrops. She will still need eyedrops post surgery. Thankfully, she is wonderful about taking them, and she loves the attention. Hair-not-fur: Millicent has hair and not fur which means that it grows indefinitely. She is a Shih Tzu with gorgeous white, black/charcoal hair. She arrived very matted because the people who had her before coming into our care neglected to keep her hair groomed and cleaned. We are committed to ensuring this will never happen again to her. She is wonderful about being groomed! Due to her matting before coming into our care, she spent 3 hours being groomed. She was an angel through it all and even gave the groomer kisses throughout. She knew she was being taken care of, and she was so grateful for it. PLEASE NOTE: Millicent’s hair will grow indefinitely, and she will need professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Only apply if you understand the additional maintenance and cost that these dear hair-not-fur souls need and are willing to commit to life for such care. Ideal Home: Millicent gets along with small, calmer dogs and cats. She’s met several and gets along with everyone. She’s mostly into people, though. What she wants, more than anything, is attention from a lifetime family who will commit to being there for her, no matter what. Millie is so ready to have a person! Again, she just wants to be near her people. That’s it. This is her goal in life. She is very low maintenance. She likes to go outside but does not require long walks. She is very laidback and likes to hang out by her person’s feet while they are working or sit in their laps at night. Do you like to go for drives and travel? So does Millicent. She loves riding in your lap or by your side and makes the best co-pilot. Do you work from home or are you retired? She will LOVE you! Because of her limited vision, she will prefer being in a quieter home that is more low-key as opposed to a home with several young human children running about. She is good around younger and quieter children who are taught how to respect and touch a dog under supervision, though. Loving teenagers are ideal. We look forward to finding this gentle and sweet soul a family who will truly appreciate the Joy she will give them!
