Mongo is a VERY energetic, playful, black/rust Doberman puppy, who is 1 year old. Mongo is physically large for his age (almost 90 pounds), likes more than anything else to play and romp like the puppy he is, and his very playful nature can sometimes rub other dogs the wrong way. I feel he would do best as a single pet or at the very least with another young female. Characteristic for a Doberman male his age, Mongo requires extensive exercise at this point in his life-at least 30-45 minutes of intensive running or swimming daily; for him a walk around the block once a day will NOT be sufficient. Additionally, Mongo will need to have a large fenced in yard. He is beginning to learn his manners and sits for his meals. However, again he is very excitable and needs a patient, firm hand to continue to teach him what his previous owners did not in his very early puppyhood.
Mongo certainly has a healthy appetite and enjoys treats as well, a characteristic when combined w/his curious nature, makes him very trainable. Due to Mongo's large size, high energy, and exuberant nature I would not feel comfortable placing him in a home with children younger than 3 years. This does not stem from any concern over aggression (he has demonstrated none); however, the exact opposite: unintentional injury do to licking too forcefully, "love bites", or accidentally knocking a baby/toddler over. Overall, Mongo is a very high energy, affectionate, gentle, happy puppy who just wants to play. Challenges to a would be adopter would primarily be keeping him exercised to avoid behavioral problems, continuing to consistently teach him manners in his interaction w/his new family and other people, and socializing him to other dogs to avoid conflicts in the future. His playful nature is sometimes misperceived by other dogs-I feel this is a product of lack of exposure to other dogs and his exuberant personality. I have not seen him demonstrate any overtly aggressive behavior. He is really just a happy, gentle giant who wants to play all the time-sometimes when he shouldn't. He will make the right family a truly great pet.
