Backstory: Mr. Morris was rescued as a small pup from an abandoned property about 5 years ago. He was tied up and left to die. When we found him, he was starving and skinny and did not trust people. With lots of time and effort, he grew into a beautiful boy who now loves to be petted.
Fosterer’s Notes
Mr Morris is a sweet soul who bonds quickly, and who will make a wonderful and loyal companion to an owner who treats him with kindness, respect and praise. He is a dog who simply wants to please his person, and he heeds consistent and calmly-delivered correction very well.
He displays no food aggression or resource guarding behaviours, and he takes treats gently. He can be a little leery of strangers (likely due to past neglect and abuse), so a quieter home would work well. He has been fine meeting my neighbours using slow introductions. Mr Morris handles thunderstorms and fireworks well, with no adverse reactions.
He walks very well on a leash (even alongside my two dogs), tolerates a bath well, and has been doing well when left in a crate for a few hours each day as part of his crate-training exercises. He spends his nights sleeping outside of his crate on a dog bed in the master bedroom without incident, and he gets along well with my 4 and 6 year old dogs.
Ideally, Mr Morris's adopter(s) would live in a childless household, or a home with calm older kids who won't overwhelm him. An adopter who will walk him twice daily and give him lots of love is really all this deserving dog needs since he is a “low maintenance” type of dog.
Mr Morris has shown no interest in the abundant squirrels, rabbits and outdoor cats in my neighbourhood. Based on his lack of a prey drive, I would expect him to be fine living with a cat. He can be cat-tested, if needed.
