Napoleon wandered into the right neighborhood one day and found his very own guardian angel! Since he'd been hanging around for a while, she decided to try to help him. No tags, no microchip and no one was looking for him- or not through the usual channels.
He had such a great personality his angel was able to foster him until he got adopted, so HEART brought him into our foster program. A quick check with the vet and he was vaccinated, microchipped and tested for heartworms.
UH-OH! Someone had not been providing Napoleon a life saving preventative for heartworms! Our great little friend tested positive! He now needed to be treated for heartworms. When the day finally came for him to be treated, it was discovered that our easy-going friend had a pretty serious heart arrhythmia and was NOT a good candidate for the conventional treatment. Instead, Napoleon has been placed on heartworm preventatives and will remain on them for the rest of his life. In approximately two years, the last of his adult heartworms will die and he will again be heartworm free! It is possible that his arrhythmia will get better as the worms in his heart die over the years.
Napoleon lives a normal quiet life. He enjoys walks with his family, lounging by the couch, and following his angel all over the house. He gets along with other dogs and seems to like children. He does not like being picked up, so his angel is helping him practice.
If you've got a pretty easy-going lifestyle and you'd like a loving companion to share it with you, Napoleon just might be a match! Even though he's good with kids, his heart condition dictates that he live a relatively quiet life right now, so we're seeking an older home that doesn't have children living in it.
