My Story

Gentleman was adopted and here is what his new forever family has to say..... So far this is the past few days with 'Gentleman'. Saturday: Gentlemen changed his name to Max shortly after arriving in New Hampshire. He was very understanding about it. He went to Concord, where he got a strawberry and vanilla shampoo, nail trim, ear clean and toothbrushing at PetCo. Then he headed on home where each individual member of the family met him one on one. After the younger family members went to bed he still managed a 1.4 mile walk. We have a little path we do at my circle and the next one down as well that goes 1.4 miles in and we do it once at 8am and once after dinner. He thinks it's a little cold but is a very good sport about it all. Sunday: So far Max hasn't had a single accident in the house (his foster mom wasn't sure if he was housebroken). He hasn't barked yet, even once. He isn't interested in the cats and while one of them got her back up the night he came home, now they all just agree to go their own way. He did miss being around other dogs as sometimes he likes to watch his reflection in the door, the windows, and the dishwasher. He does not understand toys, has NO interest in rawhide bones, and is not motivated by food. He is extremely motivated by attention and his desire to please. He is smart and I'm sure will be a star of obedience class. Treats are a take it or leave it thing for him. He will do anything for a "Good Boy!" and a chin rub. We did our walk at 8am and again after dinner. The after dinner one we cut some corners, only going about 1 mile that time, because Max was just too cold. He slept on the floor next to our bed on my side again and while I put down a dog bed for him, he doesn't even put a paw on it. I don't think he knows it is for him. I told him he could sit on the couch with me but he was too unsure, so I sat on the floor with him. He rolls over into my lap and shows his whole belly and gets his tail going. I make up silly songs with his name in them. My husband laughs at us. Monday: First day to get left alone in the house! I was out for an hour doing a grocery shopping, which is far too long to sit in a car. We were very nonchalant about leaving so it's not a Big Deal when the people come or go. Sometimes he comes with, sometimes not, but I don't want him to get anxious about it because I'm the one making it a big deal. He didn't get into anything while we were gone, just took a nap in the living room. We kept him on the same food and he's eating well. Tuesday we get him registered with the city (they were closed today) and Wednesday we go to the vet for a general once over and so the vet can get all his records. He accidentally scratched his elbow with his trimmed nails, they are much sharper now. Seems pretty superficial. He's a big snuggler, just likes to be held. Walks very well on the leash, no tugging, pulling or trying to lead - just really nice leash manners. A quiet, polite and mellow fellow who seems as happy with us and we are with him. And that is what she wrote. The End....or Beginning:) This is Gentleman. He is a social boy who gets along with everyone and everything. He likes other dogs and LOVES affection. What dog doesn't right? He is estimated to be between 2-3 years old. He ca be laid back and active and will fit into almost any loving household. It is hard to say exactly what is mix is but he has the Golden Retriever eyes to me. Adoption fee for dogs 6 months and older is $325. This includes their spay/neuter, vaccinations, initial deworming, heartworm test, quaranitne and transport. All dogs come with 30 days free health insurance. Thank you for thinking rescue.
