My Story

Animal Profile: Pan is an estimated 1 yr old 65 lb neutered male Catahoula Retriever mix who gets along well with other dogs. Originally from Texas, he was surrendered to rescue as an accidental litter and waited for months for an adopter. After a long trip to WA he thought he'd finally found his forever home but unfortunately that individual had a medical emergency and had to "return" him after just two weeks. Rather than send him back to TX we agreed to take him in to rescue. Pan previously lived with dogs and cats and did well with them. Foster Update: Panko *might* just be my favorite foster yet! He's got beautifully light eyes, a wrinkly forehead, adorably spotted ears, and a nubby quarter-tail. He's come a long way since he first arrived. He's made friends with every dog he's met, on leash or off, and has shown zero signs of resource guarding with toys or humans or his crate. He's the best brewery dog, everyone comments on how chill he is, especially for a 1yr old, and he's really opened up to humans. Our friends have commented on how different and much more social a pup Panko is now that he's been with us for awhile! He's hung out with 30 odd party guests yelling at a TV, he's jumped up to greet a bartender that he used to run away from, and he's been to breweries on some very busy nights. He happily entertains himself with toys and has been a great office dog as well! Pan still takes some effort (or just treats) to get to know, but once he's comfortable, he melts into an absolutely hilarious goofball who just wants belly scritches. His ideal family would be active and confident as he responds well to strong leadership. He's a real sweetheart, and anyone would be lucky to have him! Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $550 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, microchip with registration, and health certificate. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue. He was surrendered to DGS foster care on 6/3/2024. He will be available for adoption in the greater Seattle area once evaluated in foster care.
