My Story

PATTIE IS NOT AT THE SHELTER, SHE IS IN FOSTER CARE. TO CONTACT HER FOSTER MOM SEE BELOW

A second chance at life… I never thought I would get that and yesterday it happened. I was saved. Here is my story…

One day, I got loose from my home. I was not too worried about though because I smelled something that captivated me and I just had to follow it. After all, I am part Foxhound and always have my nose to the ground! My nose likes to keep going and going when I am on a scent. It took me awhile to realize I was in unfamiliar territory and I could not find my home.

I tell you… I really thought I was on my way home when someone picked me up, but then they brought me to the animal shelter where I was put in a kennel and asked to wait for someone to show up for me. Nobody came. I don’t understand why. I was definitely loved and well fed. I absolutely LOVE people and am totally housebroken. I must have really wandered far!

At the animal shelter, everyone was really nice and they tried to get me out for walks as often as they could, but that place is just not a home! I stayed there for awhile, but no one wanted to adopt me. True, I was a little grungy from my adventure and that may have caused people to not give me a second glance. I really wished someone would give me a bath so I would get noticed, but no one did. And then, the unspeakable happened...High winds caused the shelter to fill up with lost animals, and since I had been lost the longest, I was supposed to be put down to make room for them. I was so scared and wanted to be rescued so badly, but there was nothing I could do but hope for a miracle. And then a miracle came…

A lady named Kay and her family told me I could stay with them for just a little while until she finds a new home for me! Kay already has a house full and we both know this is just temporary, but I am so happy just to be in a home at all.

Even though I could live at Kay’s forever if she let me, she has to make room for other dogs like me who need a place to stay when life gets desperate, so I am looking for a new home, and new family, and a new start. Kay is finding out lots of things about me! She says it is really good that I have never had an accident inside. She also found out that I am very affectionate with children and don’t seem bothered by cats. Other dogs bring my playful side out full force… I love them!

I absolutely love people! I would do anything for people and love to snuggle up and lie in their laps. I love to be pet and absolutely love everyone. Belly rubs and rump rubs are my favorite and Im putty in anyone’s hand who does that. Kay says that I am very well mannered and I didn’t even mind getting a bath or using the hairdryer. She said it must be hard to be lost from my family, and she is right. It really is.

Even though my real family didn’t find me, I am looking forward to bonding with a new family who will love and protect me. Kay said she will help my new family in any way she can including some training if desired. She has started leash training me and I am doing very well. She even has me learning obedience commands, and I am getting good. I am very very treat motivated, so that helps a lot!

I adore going for walks, and we all take a walk every morning before breakfast. Kay says this helps me get in a routine of working for good stuff in life, and I agree! Dogs love to have jobs, and my job is to take a walk and be a good boy. Then, I get lots of yummy food.

I am a super good girl and never ever chew anything up or destroy anything. I never even dug one single hole. Kay says that makes me very adoptable and I hope she is right! I would love for the right person to bring me to their family.

I am an American Staffordshire terrier and foxhound mix and medium stature. I know I am unusual mix, but Kay says I have the best of both breeds. Kay says I deserve a forever loving home. I hope she is right. I can’t wait to stop being a foster dog and start being someone’s real dog.

If you think I would be a good fit for your life, please call Kay right away. Kay only wants me in a home with people who will let me live inside with them with a dog bed, a nice owner, daily walks, and lots of love. Oh yeah, and yummy food! Please call if that sounds like you. If she doesn’t answer, leave a message or send a text message (916) 880-8165.

Otherwise, you can reach her at [email protected]. If you want to come over and visit me, please let her know!

Love, Pattie

p.s. I don’t know my name because the shelter gave it to me! Kay isn’t using this name with training because my new family might give me a different name :)

Dogs are "pack animals" and need to be inside the house daily with their humans. Most behavior problems such as barking, chewing and hyper behavior are caused by leaving a dog in a backyard day and night.
