My Story

We just absolutely ADORE this three legged dog. PATTY is one of those soulful dogs... his connection with his people is deeper then you could ever think possible. You know, one of those! Background: Patty was returned after living in a home for three-ish years (he's 3 years old). In the home he was around children and another dog that he knew since puppyhood. He and the other dog were often left unattended on the electric fence in the front yard and had created this routine of barking at strangers passing and delivery men. When Patty first came into the shelter, he was really freaked out. Barking and trying to send away every person that came to the front of his kennel. After a few days of sitting with him and treat tossing, he learned to trust us and allowed us to take him out without any issues. It takes a few walks and treat tosses for Patty to build trust with a new person. We do have a nice procedure to work through to set up meet and greets for success for him. Once that trust is made, Patty is the most loyal boy you’ll ever meet! He gives the best greetings - he hops and spins around like a puppy! Patty will often lean on you then look up to your eyes in a sweet “love gaze”. When you site with him, he’ll sit either on your feet or directly in front of you in an effort to keep the connection while also enjoying the scenery around him. All Patty wants to do is be with his people and enjoy life together. We wouldn’t call him a “social butterfly” meaning he loves his people, but he doesn't thrive on socializing directly with people he doesn’t know yet like some dogs who just love all the attention from everyone. Patty walks beautifully on the leash and hardly ever pulls. He will often check in with you, turned his head to make eye contact, on his own too! He is not reactive to other dogs and seems to do well meeting them. His play style can be a bit humpy.. which other dogs sometimes don’t fully appreciate. He may be able to live with another dog if the dogs vibe right and work out their dynamic! Adoption fee covers: all vetting to age (including deworming, deflea etc ), spay/neuter and microchip after 6 months of age at our clinic, $60 rebate for completion of positive-based training classes, and lifetime support of rescue. Please fill out an APPLICATION here for consideration: www.tinyurl.com/appshdr (copy and paste link into browser window if link is not active in your browser). We do most application processing virtually and dog meets will be individually by appointment with ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS. We are not a shelter and are completely foster-based, so there is no central place to come see all of the dogs available. PLEASE NOTE: If a dog is listed as Adoptable, he or she is still available at that time. Also, our adoption area is within a several hour radius of us in Rochester, NY (NOT including Canada - sorry!)
